The start of a big adventure back in sept 24. When surrounded by good company, life is at its best and you remind yourself not much else really matters.

Thanks to the good company @bonitonito for having us at Canelo again

Thank you James @naturalbuildingsupplies and all the other hands for the hard work organising this amazing gathering, @olympicoutpost for hosting, and the many hearts and minds that came together for a phenomenal week.

This year has been started with so much inspiration!

This is Clay plaster over a cozy cob house at Spirit Pine, with @earthskyhome.
What a privilege to touch a home that has been touched by many wonderful working hands, and will be touched by many more again.

Last week Josh and I remembered why we love what we do! We attended the Natural Plasterers’ Guild Retreat in Port Angeles, WA hosted by @nwnaturalhomes and @olympicoutpost where we learned SO MUCH about different clay and lime finishes and techniques, got to test out @earthaus.plaster , @goldhillclayplaster and @saviukumaja , and formed networks of mutual support and cross-pollination with natural plasterers from around the world!

We are grateful to be a part of a community that values diversity (almost 40% of participants were women!), investment in future natural plasterers, and the legitimization of our craft. We also just had a good time with this crew ….pizza parties, music, giant bear sculptures, @naturalplasterolympics mayhem, and some show and tell time where we presented our work to everyone. Last week felt like going back to school, and we loved it💙🤗🌳

Stay tuned for how you can be a part of the guild in 2025! The building industry needs more skilled natural plasterers!! If you are a #naturalbuilder or #plasterer and want to get connected with other builders register your business on @mudworks.build website directory listed below.

Another successful natural plasterers guild retreat! Plasterers from across the world assemble in port Angeles to talk shop, trade notes, cover themselves in mud and git plastered!

We had folks from the UK, Finland, Japan, Canada, New York, Italy, Estonia and more!

So inspiring to be surrounded by artists and highly skilled craftspeople!

Also had the incredible plaster olympics hosted by chae! @naturalplasterolympics

Thanks to James Henderson @naturalbuildingsupplies for organizing and @olympicoutpost for hosting

Three days in and we are SO INSPIRED by this years Natural Plasterers’ Guild Retreat @naturalplasterersguild put on by @nwnaturalhomes and @olympicoutpost in Port Angeles, WA. To be surrounded by folks who geek out on clay to fiber ratios, show and tell their favorite trowels, and who have clay under their nails feels so good - it’s like meeting your long lost family 🌀 We have already learned so much, starting with master classes from @kyleholzhueter and @bonitonito, then three days of playing around with clay and lime sculpting with @mudworks.build @cat_odell and @rebecca_gilling, then getting our trowels dirty with some different pre-mixed clay and lime plasters from @earthaus.plaster, @goldhillclayplaster , and @saviukumaja . Stoked to see what the next two days bring!!!

Good ol IG will only let me put 10 images on here at a time. Hard to sum up a year in 10 pics! 2024 has been a year of mud, straw, wood and truly beautiful and incredible people and projects! I could not have made it through the year without a long list of other hands, minds, backs, inspiration, advice and fun! Huge thanks ( sorry if I don’t have you IG handle!) so grateful to cocreate a better world with you all! #goldhillclayplaster, #earthdragonnaturalbuilding, #arkintiltarchitects

Back in April we attended CASBA’s West Coast Natural Building conference where dozens of people gathered in Cambria to stack straw, play with plaster, and discuss the growing ecological building movement - it was sick - these photos by Tyler Westerman
