Ireland's leading general publisher of both adult and children's books.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am absolutely speechless to have been shortlisted for 3 awards at the @irishbookawards 2026. I am so honoured to be in the running for the Author/Illustrator of the Year award alongside some absolute legendary authors. Mind blowing.

Secondly, The Upside-Down Lighthouse is shortlisted in the Children’s Book of the Year (Junior) category. It is published by @theobrienpress and is up against some stiff competition!

And thirdly, published today, ‘The Starmaker’, written by @catdoyleauthor and illustrated by me is also featured in the Children’s Book of the Year (Junior) shortlist. Published by @bloomsburychildrens.

Words can’t describe how special this feels. I can’t wait for the award ceremony in December.

Now, you can help! There is a public vote to help decide the winners alongside the judges’ choice. I would really appreciate every vote in both the Author/Illustrator of the Year and Children’s Book of the Year (Junior) categories. You can find the link in my bio. Thank you!

It’s my third year as Author in Residence at @librariesni, and I love when schools visit the library to read stories and create pictures together.
This time, I had a new book to share, one I’d illustrated in my studio just upstairs.
Here are a few of the brilliant pictures the kids made!

Day 4 #IrishBookWeek - Share an Irish book that you read recently

The wonderful Irish Gothic Tales edited by Helen Carr is a collection of classic dark stories, both by well known authors like Wilde & Maturin and more obscure writers like Tynan & Sigerson Shorter. The excerpt from Carmilla reminded me of how good that novel is, and I really enjoyed The Spancel of Death, though I wish the ending was darker. The Brown Man was suitably folkhorror dark.
Perfect spooky autumnal read.

Drawing Balor of the Evil Eye with the students at Newbridge Educate Together. Thank you for the warm welcome and the lovely portrait. Thank you @kildarelibrary for arranging the visit.

Balor of the Evil Eye lived on Tory Island and is one of the many mythological characters featured in my book A Children's Atlas of Ireland. Published by @theobrienpress and in shops and libraries now.

🐾 PAW-FECT SPOOKY SEASON READING! 🐾

Biddy here with a 5 out of 5 bones review!

🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴

I just finished Aggie Witchfinder by Sarah Hannah Walsh, and it is a must-read for the spooky season! 🎃✨

Aggie comes from a family of witchfinders and cannot wait to head into the forest with her dad to hunt witches and learn the family trade. It’s a charming, magical tale that completely won me over. It was it was positively pawtastic 🤍🐾

My first ever gifted book mail!! 🥹📚✨

A little parcel from @theobrienpress arrived with three gorgeous books, and I couldn’t be more grateful! Even better, it’s just in time for Irish Book Week! 🇮🇪✨

Here’s what was inside:
📖 Irish Gothic: Dark Tales from Le Fanu to Stoker — Edited by Helen Carr
📖 A Terrible Beauty: Poetry of 1916 — Selected by Mairéad Ashe FitzGerald
📖 1916: The Rising Handbook — Lorcan Collins

I’m especially excited to get stuck into Irish Gothic with Halloween just around the corner! 🎃 I’ll be sharing reviews of all three once I’ve read them, so keep an eye out! 🖤

A massive thank you to @obrienpress for gifting me these books. It genuinely means so much! 🥹🫶🏼

I also love seeing everyone celebrating Irish authors, publishers and independent bookshops during Irish Book Week and being able to contribute myself. @booksellingireland 🇮🇪📚

Which of these three would you pick up first? 👀🤍

Gifted by O’Brien Press.
