New bumper sticker from a painting of a bumper by @theodorebaransky . Come and get em at the Printed Matter NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1 Sept 24-27. If you can’t wait, drop us $6 at our Venmo @studioroute29 with your address and we’ll mail you one. [video: a pale skinned young man with short head and facial hair stands outside wearing a tee shirt that reads ‘I heart the monster’ and an apron with a figure outlined by jagged yellow. He’s holding a bumper sticker in front of his eyes while he hums. Then as he speaks about the sticker he lowers it and you can see he’s wearing sun glasses. He then puts the sticker on the bumper of a grey car.]

Exhibitions I’ve been involved in the past year pt. 2 Theo Baransky @theodorebaransky with @studioroute29 @openinvitational SF. I met Theo while he was still in high school. He had not yet started painting, but his research project, focusing on B, pulp, straight-to-home-video, religious, exploitation, and little-known film production and distribution companies, was in full swing. He’s fascinated by the lives of these entities, their lawsuits, flops, mergers, attempts at censorship, bankruptcies etc. he also loves the many ways countries legislate morals through rating systems as well as the way intellectual property rights and protections are represented on screen. This research enters the physical world in paintings that largely depict company logos. Theo loves to research and he loves to paint, and it has been highly inspiring to me to be around someone who appears so comfortable with the meaningfulness of the medium, who doesn’t approach painting with an anxiety about its relevance. In this exhibition, Theo’s work was installed in what seemed to be a hastily vacated server storage closet. It felt like a lost space, not meant for a person, but a channel through which power and communication passed. His works here felt extra connected to their subjects, solidifying the way his painting returns to us visions of the inevitably physical and bodily (the paint) avenues that power (the logo) enters our orbits and our intimate spaces (our bed, our couch, our hand). Theo’s painterly touch emphasizes the unresolved way that representation, stories, and perspectives live with us in harmony and disharmony. More of Theo Baransky’s work can be found on the Studio Route 29 website and in his book ‘Restricted’ co-published with @white_columns last year.

Happy New Year! ICYMI—We’re so excited to announce that Studio Route 29 will be heading to San Francisco this January for the Creativity Explored x Open Invitational! Now in its fourth installment, the Open Invitational brings together progressive art studios from across the country, creating space for artists with disabilities to be seen, supported, and celebrated. We’re honored to be included alongside so many studios we admire and can’t wait to share what Studio Route 29 artists, Theo Baransky and Michael Angelo Mangino have been working on. 📍East Cut Pop-Up 215 Fremont Street San Francisco, CA, 94105 Fair Hours Press Preview: Thurs, Jan 22, 12–2 PM VIP Preview: Thurs, Jan 22, 5–9 PM Open to the Public: Fri, Jan 23, 11 AM–7 PM Sat, Jan 24, 11 AM–7 PM Sun, Jan 25, 11 AM–5 PM Looking forward to an inspiring week in SF and to connecting with everyone there 💛 Images: 1.) Theo Baransky, "Platinum Disc Corporation," 2025 17 x 14 in. Acrylic on duralar 2.) Theo Baransky, "New World Pictures," 2025 17 x 14 in. Acrylic on duralar Image descriptions: Two paintings by Studio Route 29 artist Theo Baransky. In the first painting, "Platinum Disc Corporation," Baransky uses an impasto technique, layering paint and visible brushstrokes to render the Platinum Disc Corporation logo. The image features bold, black, shadow-backed silver lettering above cursive script. The background is sky blue, with darker blue circular forms orbiting the text. The second painting is predominantly black and features a red sphere above the words "New World Pictures" in white. Rendered in a similarly impasto style, the work reveals the artist’s affinity for cinematic iconography and evokes the charged anticipation of a film about to begin. @theodorebaransky @openinvitational @creativityexplored @sf_artweek

Films for Friends turned three yesterday ! We’ve had so much fun with our beloved screening series. First image here is from our very first movie night. Next up is FFF Karaoke on December 11. Image descriptions: 1) Artists, Theo Baransky and Hailey Schumacher stand side by side on a cool Autumn night next to a handmade sign that reads, “FILMS FOR FRIENDS TONIGHT." 2) Christian Turner, an artist working at Studio Route 29, stands costumed in a red cape and gold hat while holding one of his mixed media TV sculptures. 3) Mick McDonough poses as Sherlock Holmes in the studio, holding a magnifying glass to his eye and a corncob pipe in his mouth. 4) Photo of the little theater stage from the audience perspective. Artist BJ Armour stands in the spotlight, masked and caped seemingly ready to deliver a dramatic monologue. 5) Painter Karyn Tettemer sits in the white-walled Beauty Gallery wearing her custom made golden cloak and angel wings created for her music video. 6) EJ Collins stands in the Little Theater wearing a court jester hat and holding a microphone.
