POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Brampton already has a Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan (CEERP). But a plan only matters if it translates into action.

As we approach the municipal election, we’re asking candidates:

1) How will you prepare our infrastructure and neighbourhoods for extreme weather?
2) What investments will you prioritize?
3) How will you achieve Brampton’s existing climate targets?
4) How will you ensure climate resilience protects our most vulnerable residents?

We want to hear measurable actions, timelines and accountability.

Climate resilience is not just an environmental issue - it affects our public health, infrastructure, affordability and community safety. It’s time we talks it more seriously.

👉 Watch the video and hear the questions we’re putting to Brampton’s municipal candidates.

🚗🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴 Brampton’s Environmental Future: How will Brampton MOVE?

Traffic congestion is something Brampton residents experience every day, but as our city continues to grow, the transportation conversation needs to be about more than adding lanes and widening roads.

The bigger question is: What should mobility in Brampton look like 10, 20 or 30 years from now?

As part of our Brampton’s Environmental Future series, we’re asking municipal candidates:

❓ What are your plans for managing traffic as Brampton grows?

❓ How will walking, cycling and public transit be incorporated into Brampton’s transportation plan?

❓ How will you create a connected transportation network — rather than relying primarily on the automobile?

❓ What does Brampton’s transportation system need to look like 10, 20 and 30 years from now — and how will we get there?

Transportation decisions shape more than our commutes. They affect our neighbourhoods, businesses, quality of life and environment.

We want to hear the plans - not just for today, but for the Brampton we’re building for tomorrow.

🎥 Watch the video and let us know: What transportation questions will you ask your municipal candidates?

What happens when future doctors start looking beyond the clinic? 🌎🩺

The Brampton Environmental Alliance had the privilege of hosting an informative and interactive workshop for @tmu_medicine first year medical students for Community Day.

Together, we explored a simple but powerful idea: our health is shaped by the environments we live in.

Students explored how air quality, extreme heat, access to green space and environmental inequities can influence health—and what role physicians can play in creating healthier communities.

What stood out most was their curiosity and willingness to think beyond treating illness and toward prevention, advocacy and environmental health.

The future of healthcare isn’t just about what happens in the exam room. It’s about creating communities where people have the opportunity to be healthy in the first place.

We’re excited to continue building our partnership with TMU and creating more opportunities for students to engage with environmental health in Brampton.

🌱 And we’re looking for the next generation of environmental health leaders.

Our Youth Environmental Health Ambassador Program gives high school students the opportunity to learn, lead and contribute to environmental health initiatives in their own community.

🌎📣 Calling all future healthcare leaders and environmental health ambassadors! Want to make a real difference in your community while building leadership, environmental advocacy, and healthcare-related experience?

Applications are now open for the BEA x TMU School of Medicine Youth Environmental Health Ambassador Program!

Led by medical students from @tmu_medicine in partnership with the Brampton Environmental Alliance (BEA), this selective program gives Brampton youth the opportunity to explore the connection between environmental and human health through mentorship, community engagement, and hands-on public health initiatives.

A key focus of this project is understanding and raising awareness about the potential health impacts of air quality changes associated with the approved Emerald Incinerator expansion, making it the largest waste incinerator in Canada and one of the largest in North America.

Youth Ambassadors will help learn about environmental health issues, communicate evidence-based information to the public, and contribute to community conversations about creating a healthier future for Brampton.

As a Youth Ambassador, you’ll:
✅ Work directly with TMU medical students and BEA community leaders
✅ Earn volunteer hours and gain valuable mentorship
✅ Develop leadership, communication, and advocacy skills
✅ Create environmental health awareness campaigns and media content
✅ Participate in community projects and public engagement initiatives
✅ Strengthen your resume and post-secondary applications

This is your chance to be part of a new generation of youth leaders helping shape a healthier, more sustainable Brampton.

🌱 Learn. Lead. Advocate. Create Change.

What an incredible day yesterday! 💥 I had the absolute pleasure of attending a workshop hosted by The Performance Plate, and let me tell you, I learned so much.
We dove deep into how the food we eat directly impacts how we feel, and the game-changing benefits of eating the right foods at the right times. It’s amazing how much your daily productivity changes when you actually fuel your body correctly! 🥑🚀

A huge thank you to Amisha, the brilliant mind behind it all. I’m hoping to host Amisha at one of my upcoming workshops soon! Hopefully, she can make it out to check out my workshop to help us level up our productivity just in time for the summer. ☀️

Bonus: We got to try the food from her company, The Food Quotient, and it is healthy food at its absolute best—so delicious! 🥗✨

Looking forward to seeing you at the next one!

Most of us put something into the blue box every week and hope it gets recycled properly.

But have you ever wondered what actually happens after the truck picks it up?

Where do the materials go?

How are they sorted?

What gets recycled and what doesn’t?

How does an old yogurt container eventually become new packaging again?

As part of #torontoclimateweek , we’re hosting a community workshop called:

What Really Happens to Your Recycling?

This is not a technical lecture or a guilt-trip about recycling. Instead, it is a practical and interactive conversation about how Ontario’s recycling system is changing, what happens behind the scenes, and why it matters more than most people realise.

We’ll also be joined by Arjun Krishan, Manager at EFS Plastics, who will walk us through how post-consumer recycled materials are processed and transformed into new packaging products right here in Canada.

Date: Thursday, June 04, 2026
Time: 06:30 PM – 08:00 PM
Location: Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre, Room 2

Whether you’re deeply involved in #sustainability or just recycling at home and curious about where it all goes, you’re welcome here. We’d love to see you there!

Last month, Brampton Environmental Alliance members Polly and Amisha had the opportunity to represent BEA at Medtronic’s Earth Month / Sikh Heritage Month event, an inspiring gathering centered on sustainability, community, and cultural connection.

Hosted by Sustainability Manager Maya Adachi-Amitay, the event brought together a strong lineup of organizations, including:

• Partners in Project Green (@partnersinprojectgreen );
• Different Spokes (@different.spokes );
• Bike Brampton (@bikebrampton ); and
• Kudrat Di Rakhia (@kudratdirakhia ) - founded by BEA’s own @rajbalinder

Alongside community partners, Medtronic’s internal teams, including their sustainability department, women’s network, and First Nations network which helped create a dynamic and engaging space.

While 40 employees had registered, nearly 50 showed up! An incredible turnout that speaks to the growing interest in environmental action. The energy in the room was palpable, with positive feedback from attendees and even members of the leadership team stopping by to take part.

For the BEA, it was a meaningful opportunity to spark conversation and build awareness. We shared our mission, highlighted current initiatives, and introduced attendees to important local issues, like the Emerald Energy-from-Waste incinerator, which many hadn’t heard about. We also spoke about our collaboration with @tmu_medicine students, who are working alongside us on advocacy and community-driven solutions.

With many attendees living outside of Brampton, we encouraged a simple but powerful idea: meaningful change can start anywhere. Whether it’s planting native pollinators or taking small steps to reduce waste, every action counts. When asked about litter cleanups, we were proud to highlight our commitment through the Litter Reduction Charter and the work of our member organization, @peopleagainstlittering .

Events like these remind us that awareness is the first step toward action and that real impact happens when communities, organizations, and individuals come together.

Last week, @gunjann had the privilege of helping host the Annual General Meeting for the Brampton Environmental Alliance alongside our fellow board members and organizing committee.

As co-host and emcee with @theofficialamisha , in honour of International Women’s Day and Month, it was inspiring to see well over 100 people gather simply because they care about environmental sustainability and the well-being of their community.

What makes organizations like the @bramptonea so meaningful is the way they bring together residents, professionals, advocates, and leaders who believe that when people come together with a shared purpose, real change is possible.

Community involvement has become a very important part of the work we do. We believe that when individuals and businesses step forward to contribute their time, ideas, and resources, they help build stronger, more connected communities.

If you’re a local business owner or community leader, we encourage you to consider becoming a member of the BEA. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about environmental sustainability, collaborate with passionate people, and discover ways your organization can make a meaningful difference.

Grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up!
