I don't have the right words for this yet, but I'm going to try.

On June 6th, at the City of Brampton's 2026 Grow Green Festival, The Food Quotient received the Environmental Stewardship Award.

When I started The Food Quotient, the conversation was always about performance, energy, and how food affects the way we think and work. But underneath all of that was always a deeper belief that the way we grow, source, and choose our food matters beyond just what it does for us individually. It matters for the world we're all sharing.

Having that recognized by the city I live and work in means more than I expected it to.

To the other recipients Jeya Thavachandren, Julius Lindsay, Human Nature Projects Canada, and Pauline Thornham, congratulations. Being in the same room as the work you're doing is an honour I don't take lightly.

And to everyone who has supported The Food Quotient, shown up to workshops, shared the work, believed in this before it looked like much, this belongs to you too.

There's a lot more to do. But today I'm just grateful.

It’s funny how an interview can make you look back at what shaped you long before you ever stepped into a leadership role.

When people ask what they should know about me, the answer is simple: I love food. Not just cooking, but the meaning and connection behind it.

My leadership roots go back to growing up in a joint family of 16–17 people. Everyone had a role. Everyone pulled their weight. And without realizing it, that taught me how to lead with collaboration and trust.

My food philosophy comes from the same place;
fresh meals every day, Sunday treats, and a curiosity for why certain foods help us heal. Small lessons that quietly shaped both my habits and my education.

What this really means is that our foundations form long before we notice them.

And when we understand where we come from, we lead, cook, and live with more intention.

If conversations around food, leadership, and community spark something in you, connect with me, I’d love to keep the dialogue going.

Brampton already has a Community Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan (CEERP). But a plan only matters if it translates into action.

As we approach the municipal election, we’re asking candidates:

1) How will you prepare our infrastructure and neighbourhoods for extreme weather?
2) What investments will you prioritize?
3) How will you achieve Brampton’s existing climate targets?
4) How will you ensure climate resilience protects our most vulnerable residents?

We want to hear measurable actions, timelines and accountability.

Climate resilience is not just an environmental issue - it affects our public health, infrastructure, affordability and community safety. It’s time we talks it more seriously.

👉 Watch the video and hear the questions we’re putting to Brampton’s municipal candidates.

Here's the difference:

Time management asks:
"How can I fit more into my day?"

Energy management asks:
"How can I perform at my best during the hours that matter most?"

Research shows that productivity isn't determined by hours alone. Our focus, decision-making ability, creativity, and mental stamina fluctuate throughout the day. An hour of high-energy, focused work can often produce more value than several hours spent pushing through fatigue.

Time management remains important. In fact, studies have found it is associated with improved performance and well-being. But scheduling tasks is only part of the equation. The quality of the energy you bring to those tasks matters too.

The question isn't whether you have enough time.

It's whether you're protecting your best energy for the work that matters most.

Most companies think burnout is a workload problem.

So they reduce the workload and the burnout stays.

Because burnout isn’t always about how much work people have. It’s also about how much energy they have left to handle it.

47% of Canadian workers reported feeling burned out in a 2025 national survey, with workload and mental fatigue among the top drivers.

Sustainable energy starts with the basics we often overlook: sleep, recovery, and daily nutrition.

You can’t fix an energy problem with a scheduling solution.

Maybe it’s time we changed the burnout conversation.

Nobody puts burnout on a balance sheet.

But maybe they should.

When a burned-out employee finally does what burned-out employees do, they leave. And that's where the real cost shows up.

Replacing one person costs between 50% to 200% of their annual salary.

Not a wellness stat. A financial one.

That number includes the interviews, the onboarding, the months of reduced productivity while someone new finds their footing, and the institutional knowledge that walked out the door and never fully comes back.

For a Canadian company with 500 employees, burnout-related losses can exceed $3.4 million annually. 47% of Canadian workers reported feeling burned out in 2025, up 14 points from just two years ago.

Run those two numbers together. The picture gets uncomfortable fast.

Most organizations respond with better benefits. More flexibility. A meditation app.

But burnout is fundamentally an energy problem. And energy is built daily, through recovery, through rest, and through how people are actually fuelling themselves every single workday.

The companies that understand this early aren't just building healthier teams.

They're protecting a line item most of their competitors aren't even tracking yet.

That conversation is worth having before the resignation letter lands on your desk.

DM me, let's talk.

I didn't learn about burnout from a textbook.

I watched it happen to people who were genuinely brilliant at what they did. People who cared deeply, worked hard, and simply could not sustain the pace of the environment they were in. Not because they were weak. Because the environment never asked whether they could.

15 years in banking will show you that pattern clearly. The higher you climb, the more normalized it becomes: the pressure, the expectation, the quiet agreement that this is just what it costs to be good at your job.

When I founded The Food Quotient Inc., I made a decision that this would never be something I contributed to. Not in my team, not in the spaces I work in, not in the conversations I have.

And sitting on the Brampton Board of Trade, working with companies across my community every single day, I can tell you this is not a niche problem. It is not an HR talking point.

47% of Canadian workers reported burnout in 2025, up from 33% just two years ago. These are not numbers on a slide. These are the people I sit across from in boardrooms, the founders I speak to at networking events, the employees who message me after workshops.

The reason I talk about nutrition and workplace performance isn't because it's a trend worth following. It's because I have seen firsthand repeatedly, what happens when organizations treat their people's physical and mental fuel as an afterthought.

This is not theory for me. It never has been.

If you are leading a team and you are seeing these signs, I'd genuinely like to have that conversation with you.

DM me. Let's talk.

We talk about burnout constantly. But most people can't actually describe what it looks like until they're already in it.

After 15 years between corporate banking and running my own business, here is what I've observed, burnout rarely announces itself. It doesn't show up as a breakdown. It shows up as things quietly falling through the cracks. A lack of focus that wasn't there six months ago. A midday crash that hits like clockwork, usually an hour and a half after lunch. An increasing need for days off not because of vacation, but just to feel human again.

Those are not personality traits. Those are symptoms.

According to Robert Half Canada, 47% of Canadian workers reported feeling burned out in 2025, up from 33% in 2023. That's a 14-point rise in two years. And online searches for burnout signs and symptoms rose 50% worldwide in 2024, with Toronto ranking among the highest burnout rates of any major city globally.

For employees, if you are recognising these signs in yourself, it is worth paying attention to what your body is telling you before it forces you to.

For leaders, if you are seeing this in your team, the answer is rarely more time off or better time management. Those address the surface. The deeper question is what is your team actually running on day to day, and is it enough to sustain the demands you are placing on them.

For a company with 500 employees, burnout-related productivity losses can exceed $3.4 million annually. Organizations that prioritize prevention save approximately $1.7 million per year.

Burnout is not inevitable. But it does require a different kind of conversation than most workplaces are having right now.
