🍿💌 Introducing the Lights, Climate, Action Substack!

That’s right, your favourite podcast that looks at films and TV through a climate lens is making the switch from audio to the written word.

Why, you may ask? As well as birthing a newsletter, we’ve also recently birthed a baby. With a little (a lot) less time on our hands and some logistical challenges of trying to record decent audio with some adorable yet very loud baby babbles in the background, we decided that in order to keep our love for climate cinema alive, we would need to find a new way to share our (often quite controversial) opinions with you all.

So, if you’ve missed the fun of the pod, head to the link in our bio to subscribe! The first review is a fun one 👀🪏🤠

🚨 Despite weeks of unbearable heat, despite thousands of heatwave related deaths, despite Canadian wildfires filling the skies with ash, the incoming UK PM is set to U-turn on pledges to allow new oil and gas licenses, such as Rosebank - the UK’s largest undeveloped oil and gas field.

This is why it’s a critical moment for us all to make it clear that we oppose @andy.burnham’s plans and that we must stop Rosebank - for future’s sake. People all across the country have been taking action by showing up in their local communities and sending a message to their MPs, who have a duty to represent their constituents wishes.

✊ Head to @parentsforfuture_uk @stopcambo for the details on how to take action, which is as simple as taking a picture with a banner (whether you’re a parent or not - simply existing on planet Earth is reason enough).

We’ve been fighting against Rosebank for years. We cannot let the fossil fuel lobby win now when renewable energy is cheaper and more efficient than ever and when their proposals for new oil and gas benefit nobody, despite their claims of energy security and lowering bills.

The louder we oppose this plan, the harder it is for leaders like Burnham to get away with it.

I keep seeing reminders about holding onto moments in life that our past-selves would have only dreamed of. Thanks to you, my past self would be pretty happy to know her dreams came true of starting a family with someone she was incredibly lucky to meet.

Happy first Father’s Day to my parent-in-crime, @theoriginaljake 💙

Honouring the end of Earth month by welcoming our secret little bit of stardust earth-side after 9 months of waiting 💚💫 👶🏼

The end of one journey has embarked us on another and I am so thankful to @theoriginaljake for taking care of me so flawlessly throughout it all. I’m so grateful we chose each other to embark on this life together and for deciding to share our world with someone new.

It is absolutely wild and wonderful that I had the opportunity to build a tiny human from the inside out and I’m so glad we could capture some of that feeling forever 📸 (taken at 33 weeks)

P.S - surprise!! 🤭🥰 my biggest hard launch

📆⏪ I didn’t share as much on the internet this year but a lot was still happening - I worked harder than ever before on things that I care about (new job titles and all) and started building towards a future I’ve always dreamed of. I really can’t wait for 2026 🥰

1️⃣ Started the year by producing @lightsclimateaction with @theoriginaljake
2️⃣ Visited Amsterdam by train 🚆
3️⃣ Watched @theoriginaljake run a very long way again
4️⃣ Had an unseasonably warm April with lido swims and picnics
5️⃣ My bestest friend came to visit from across the pond 💚
6️⃣ Made some mischief for @clean_creatives
7️⃣ Travelled Europe without flying 🇮🇹🇨🇭🇫🇷🇩🇪
8️⃣ Embraced the seasons of life 🌱
9️⃣ Worked very hard all month long for 2 major projects including one focused on solar power, that made me appreciate views like this ☀️
🔟 Showed up again and again 🪧
1️⃣1️⃣ Visited chilly Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
1️⃣2️⃣ Another trip to Amsterdam for pastries and food before ending the year in nature.

I’m ready for when the leaves turn green again 💚

Have you seen the reviews for this movie? 🎄🎁

We were blown away by how many people missed the sustainable themes in this Christmas rom-com, despite the dialogue being straight out of an environmentalist's handbook.

Check our bio for the full episode.

🎄🔔 SURPRISE! We’ve just dropped a very special BONUS Christmas Special discussing the new @netflix movie, A Merry Little Ex-Mas, through a climate lens - starring @aliciasilverstone , @theoliverhudson and @jameelajamil.

Is this movie another festive cringe-fest or a rom-com with a deeper message? What are reviewers saying? And… what has Harry Potter got to do with anything?

Head to the link in our bio to listen now 🎧 wherever you get your podcasts.

Thank you for your patience as we work towards a second season of Lights, Climate, Action! We’ll be back soon in 2026 ⏩

Rooted in gratitude today at Cabilla, Bodmin Moor with the fab, @plant_one_cic crew celebrating woodland restoration, community and the launch of #NoTreesNoSeas – connecting forests and
oceans in powerful new ways. 🌊

Over the past few years I’ve been lucky to work alongside Carl, Rai and the Plant One team through Goodfest, Anthropy, Blue Earth Summit and partnering with LEAP. ⚡️

They honoured a few of us as Mighty Oak Guardians in 2024, protectors of hedgerows, woods and uncultivated lands – I got to be Oaken alongside these legends:

🌿 Chris Hines MBE – the beacon who pathed the path and shone the light. Founder of Surfers Against Sewage and a master of intelligent advocacy, showing we each have the power to create change and inspiring countless campaigns for our seas and planet.

🌿 Jake Causley – connecting the next generation and holding the powerful to account, a dedicated woodland creator and true legend.

🌿 Amy Wright – Kind Tide changemaker weaving community and creativity for Plant One, channelling wonder woman energy to drive change.

🌿 Matt Hocking – a tour de force from Eden to B Corp to LEAP and Goodfest, the mycelium connector of the environmental world, bringing people and ideas together and championing Plant One.

🌿 James Stuart – filmmaker and master storyteller, bringing Plant One’s mission alive on screen through Light Box Films

More have joined us Entlings in the forest since.

Today, 24 September 2025, is a day of thanks and celebration – talks, woodland walks, amazing food and even the chance to help care for a young temperate rainforest. A day to thank everyone helping return these isles to the wooded wonder they should be.

Plant One’s magic is collective action: quiet, steady work that lets woodlands and ideas grow.

I’m proud to be in full human signpost mode for them today and always – because they really care, educate, build community and show what it means to support our living system in Cornwall.

Rosebank is a climate injustice ✊🏾🍉 BUT we’re SO close to stopping it.

Rosebank is the UK’s biggest undeveloped oil field. But the government hasn’t said no yet. Any day now, oil giant Equinor could reapply for it’s licence to develop the oil field — and it’s up to us to make sure they get the message loud and clear:

NO. MORE. OIL.

Rosebank would blow a hole through our climate targets. It would create more CO₂ than 28 of the world’s poorest countries emit in a whole year!

Ithaca Energy is a majority owned by Delek Group, an Isr*eli oil giant known to operate in illegal settlements in the West Bank

This is climate injustice. This is economic injustice.
So let’s make it impossible to ignore us. Let’s rise up, speak out, and shut Rosebank down — for good.
