❌ BANNED BOOKS WEEK ❌

Hi friends! 👋🏻

This week is Banned Books Week, and I am here to say:
1. I read banned books.
2. I promote banned books.
3. I stand against censorship, racism, homophobia, and fascism.
4. @caseyoffthepage and I host a book club that started this year. We have been reading banned books every month, and it’s been so amazing! 🤩

Please see the slides above to find out:
1. How to stand up against book bans in your area.
2. Which U.S. states and countries have the most book bans.
3. How banning books restricts and harms.

❓ Q: What are your favorite banned book?

📚 BANNED BOOKS BOOK CLUB:
JANUARY 2025 📚

Hey friends! 👋🏻
The #bannedbooksbookclub read #thehandmaidstale by #margaretatwood for our January 2025 pick.

❌

Genre: Dystopian (It feels realistic right now, though)

❌

🔍 What I Thought 🔎
I loved: The deep thinking that June (aka “Offred”) does and the “before and after Gilead” depictions. As America takes on a new turn since January 2025, I feel like this book is all too surreal, and I fear the future of America (four years is a long time to turn this country to even more 💩). We can’t and won’t back down! ✊🏻

❌

⭐️ Rating ⭐️
Overall, this book was a 3/5 for me. I connected more with the tv show honestly. 😢

❓Q: What did your book club read in January 2025?

This week - I am SO far behind......
SO! Cool news! My friends and I have started a book club and then we decided we'd take it and expand it on bookstagram!
(Kermit waving hands here 😂)

Who are my friends?
Well, way back in May of 2023 I was talking to these ladies in a chat about going to a book event. We were all coming in from various areas of the country either solo or in pairs and we decided to meet up. Most of us did, some I still haven't met in person BUT I WILL! Short end to the long story - we bonded forever. We have our own chat. I talk to them daily sometimes more than they would like me to. LOL
We talk about pretty much everything in our lives, but books are high up there in our chats.
We've recently completed our January read and I'll post my review soon as well.
Our February read has been chosen and I'll cross post that as well so if you are interested you can see what we are up to this month. After that -- March you should really come on over and read with us. 😉

So - take aways from this post?

First take away - If you are looking for a cool online book club you'd like to hang out in please feel free to join us over in @booksndlcks we love meeting new people and having new members to chat along with us. (You aren't required to join any chats with me)

Second take away - If you are ever wondering if you should travel to a large bookish event by yourself or with a friend - DO IT! You may end up meeting your tribe there. I'll be posting more about which events I'll be attending as they come closer. I'm an extra extrovert and love meeting new people.
