This weekend I took a traditional sign painting class taught by the amazing @kirsten.m.bauer . She has been a professional sign painter for over a decade, thriving in a male dominated world, helping revive what was once a dying trade. In a world of mass-produced everything, her work reminds us that the craft still matters.

While I am still learning, I can say with certainty that more and more people are craving the authenticity that comes with hand-painted work. It feels trustworthy and personal, helping establish a sense of place and history.

Two days until we’re back on the island in one of our favorite places on earth, @saltwaterfarmsji, for our Sweater Weather knitting retreat! We’ll be spending four days obsessing over fit, construction, color, care, and technique with twenty new friends and a set of fabulous instructors from @makewoolfriends and @teacozyyarnshop. Plus farm tours, hikes, stellar food from @thepantryseattle… living the dream.

Hydrabadi Style Dum Buryani class from Sept @thepantryseattle was so much fun to prepare for and cook with the lovely participants. Looking forward to the next two upcoming classes in the series later in October and then in December.
Loved diving into the world of Biryani and learning different varieties and how they differ from each other and draw upon the similarities and influences with other cultures such as the Persian Tahdig , Maqloubeh from Palestine and Spanish Paella. It truly is a dish that tells a vivid story of colonization, migration and transcends culture, place and time.

P.S. @laborofloaf discovered your article on Biryani from the archives of @saveurmag and it was a great read.

Our autumn events calendar is in full swing! 🍁🤓🧀 Tickets for all our classes are on sale now, and a few are already sold out or very close to selling out.

From our progressive cheese education series (Cheese 101 and 102) to our pairing classes (Wine & Cheese, Chocolate & Cheese, Cheese & Non-Alcoholic Beverages), there's a little something for everyone.

We are stoked that @the_mobile_monger will be leading our Uplands Cheese Experience class on October 28, too! That one will involve a special tasting of several profiles of Uplands Cheese's two raw-milk cheeses along with insider information on how the creamery's award-winning cheese is cared for and made. It is not one to miss!

We are excited as always to partner with @skalbeerhall, @darbywinerywa, @thepantryseattle and @cocoalegato on some extra-special off-site classes.

🧀 Tickets to all classes offered at Street Cheese are available for sale through our online store (link in bio or below). If you are trying to find a class on there and it is not showing up, then it has sold out.
🧀 Tickets to classes offered off-site (not at Street Cheese) are available for sale through the host business' websites (see our linktr.ee below or the link in our bio).
🧀 All of our classes are available by advance ticket sales only. No tickets are available for sale at the door.
🧀 If you want to be the first to hear when new classes and events are available, you should sign up for our weekly email newsletter. Newsletter subscribers receive first notice of all event tickets and first dibs. (You can sign up on our website, or send us a message with your email address, and we can add you manually.)
🧀 We will have fewer events in December because of the busy holiday season at the store. We will release December, January and February event tickets in late November.

A huge thank you to Anne and Eric for inviting me to try something new! 🤍

Last Friday I took my first real cooking class at The Pantry in Ballard, and oh my gosh… it was SO much fun!

We learned new techniques, cooked with flavors and spices I wouldn’t normally reach for, played with all kinds of fun kitchen gadgets, drank wine, laughed a lot, and somehow managed to cook an entire incredible meal together.

And then, of course, we got to sit down and eat everything we made!

Such a fun reminder that it’s never too late to try something new, learn a few new tricks, and get a little outside your comfort zone.

Thank you, Anne & Eric, for such a fantastici night and for including me. I’m officially ready for cooking class #2! 🤍🍷👩‍🍳

Semillon grape molasses is in the jar. 2026 vintage is here, the blackbirds ate all the rest of the grapes, fast and efficient. Rick harvested these two boxes of Semillon before the birds found them. Heated them up to get the juice, strained them through a cotton dish towel and boiled down the juice. #grapemolasses #farmlife #quillisascutfarmschool #harvest

Tickets for almost all of our Anniversary Week, October and November classes and events are on sale now. Snag yours ASAP via the link in our bio or our linktr.ee.

FAQ:
🧀 All classes and ticketed events are available with advance tickets only.
🧀 Tickets to classes held at Street Cheese are available to purchase through our online store.
🧀 Tickets for classes held off-site at our partner locations are available/will be available to purchase through their websites.
🧀 Cheese 101 and Cheese 102 are part of a progressive series that builds on knowledge from class to class. It isn't required to take 101 first, but it does help.
🧀 If you go onto our web store to purchase tickets to a class and you don't see that class listed under special events, it is most likely already sold out.
🧀 We always release our classes through our newsletter first, so newsletter subscribers get first dibs on tickets.
