Talent can open the door, but authenticity, community, and commitment help shape the journey.

Industry leaders Kimberly Burse, Ray Chew, Willy Rodriguez, Lisa Marie Lovett, and Nicholson A. Porter joined our City Music Summer Scholars to reflect on the building blocks that helped shape their careers—from staying grounded in your purpose, to trusting your intuition, and recognizing the power of teamwork.

Thank you to our panelists for offering an honest look at the work, relationships, and self-belief that sustain a life in music and beyond.

What does it mean to build a creative life that’s grounded in who you are?

Earlier this month, our City Music Summer Scholars were joined by guest panelists Willy Rodriguez, Kimberly Burse, Ray Chew, Lisa Marie Lovett, and Nicholson Porter for an afternoon of music, reflection, and connection. The panel explored experiences in music direction and creative leadership, while also reflecting on each guest’s creative and professional journey, the importance of staying rooted in your “why,” and knowing yourself as you shape what comes next.

The afternoon also featured high-energy performances from The Trumpet Chicks (@camdenreptheater), alongside an all-star band featuring City Music Boston and Summer Scholar students.

A big thank you to our guest panelists for pouring into our students, and congratulations to our Summer Scholars on a wonderful summer of artistry, growth, and hard work.

Swipe through for some of our favorite moments from the panel and performances.

This year’s Berklee City Music Network Summit brought our community together around the theme of “Grounded Through Connection”, honoring our local roots while creating space for shared practice, learning, and growth.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Boston and contributed their voices, experiences, and ideas to an incredible four days of connection and community!

What I watched recently and found worth sharing >

Your Diaphragm Pumps Pain and Inflammation Out
Channel: Stop Chasing Pain
Duration: 13:51

Dr Perry’s lymphatic system knowledge is astounding as always - here he reframes the importance of a well-functioning diaphragm from an angle we might not be so familiar with.

Lower Body Fascia Reset for the hips, knees and legs
Channel: Human Garage TV
Duration: 25:27

Twisting and torque-pattern work with fascial lines throughout the body. I always feel much lighter after these.

Existential Courage: De Beauvoir
Channel: Emmy’s Existential Zone
Duration: 14:40

What I got out of this is… Courage is the juice of life.

To empaths who’ve sabotaged their abundance
Channel: Nicholson A. Porter
Duration: 40:56

Steady, peaceful talk about the way to be in this world. Similarly to the previous video, embodying what is talked about here requires Courage.

1 Hour Intermediate Yoga | Spacious Flow | Full Body Strength, Balance and Flexibility
Channel: Flow with Diana
Duration: 1:03:49

Creative, challenging, steady flow. This channel is a new discovery and I enjoyed this practice - it expanded my limits without forceful pushing.
