POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

| A “When The Streets Became My Altar, These Were The Truths I Heard” 1 month anniversary mood-board!!! 💃🏽🕺🏾

“WTSBMA…” is an ongoing conversation that touches on the necessity of what it means to be free, what it takes to love and be loved, how capitalism and white supremacy shrinks our capacity to *be*, the remedies to help your spirit sustain, and so on and so on. You hear these conversations in the sigh you let out after a looonnnggg day. They’re in the cry you have when your energy’s been spent. They’re in the cackles you share when joy has found you anyhow! They’re in the wisdom you find in strangers. They’re in the responsibility that finds you. I understood that my most life-altering and affirming messages came from those I share this world with! Not from my polished, solitary altar. Instead of just my voice, I carry several and that makes me feel closer to God. It’s a story that views the collective as Source.

Very x1000 excited to be sharing these poems. This started as one poem that fleshed out in December 2024 and a few months later, I had a complete story to tell. These poems truly grew with me, and I’m still learning from many of them. I’m happy to be sharing the process, especially on my birthday. Now, me and my baby have the same birthday 🥹📖

A few things:
•The release of the 1st edition is a digital release! The link is in my bio and it is free to view! Having my work be accessible is so so important to me. How can my poems do the work they need to if they’re not accessible?
•The book’s current home is temporary. It’s a starter home while I figure out how to serve us both the best! Self publishing is a tall mountain to climb, but I didn’t want to prolong the start any longer! If anyone has tips/recommendations, I’m more than happy to talk!
•There will be physical copies available in the future. Unfortunately, because your girl‘s not rich, those will come with a price to assist with printing/shipping costs. However, there will be more poems to experience for that price. Stay tuned for the 2nd edition🕯️

Thank You in advance for reading, sharing, living in the world, & going on this ride with me! I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes! Thank You to everyone who encouraged and supported me during the writing & illustration process 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹. I could not have done this without my village. I left little love letters at the end of the book 💌. And Thank You to the giants, Ntozake Shange & Faith Ringgold, that carried me through this. I’m hoping you see and feel their presence throughout this book 🪞

To conclude, it’s out!! This is only the beginning! I’m 26!! And all I want for my birthday is for you to read these poems & tell me how they made you feel! 🫂♍️🤸🏾‍♀️🌞🦋

thank you “a body of our own” for being so so warm and energizing. From set up to take down, the energy was welcoming, supportive, and curious, in the best ways. I’m thankful for the cathartic reminders of being stronger together that were sprinkled throughout the night. Hearing everyone’s voices chanting with my own made me confident about sharing my own individual voice (b/c I was super nervous lol). The whole night was a reminder to *be* and to remind everyone the responsibility we have to protect each other’s being.
I was excited to be chosen to share my visual art piece “This Intricate Existence”, along with my poem “Queerness as a Watercolor Painting”. Together, they make the statement that beyond the flesh is the soul, the truest essence of a person. Queer people do not owe anyone labels nor do we need to force our essence into a box to be given dignity, respect, and sight.
I’m thankful to everyone for receiving these pieces so well and I LOVED witnessing all of the art that were shared.
Swipe to see “This Intricate Existence” and a snippet of “Queerness as a Watercolor Painting” (the full poem is also included to read). Also, I’m happy to share that this poem is one from an upcoming book that I will be releasing. More information on it will be out very soon :)

| 2016 nostalgia but in poems 😅. I started “Dear ‘The Artist’”, my fourth mini collection, that year and had noo idea that I’d still be sharing poems, that I would teach poetry, and that I would overall start making it my center 😭. I pulled these straight from the vault and edited nothing so be kind to 16 y/o me 💀🐚

(Also, the last poem was posted on its own on @thepheltpen b/c it’s the one that continues to grow with me🌱)

| an experimental concept w/ my poems • I’ve been writing a LOT of snippets lately. Some I plan on finishing and some that will stay snippets. Ever since I attached those Florence lyrics to that picture of the full moon yesterday, I’ve really liked attaching writing to pictures. So, I attached some of my snippets to some pictures that I’ve taken of the sky. There’s kind of a similar through line in all of these, so we’ll call this collection: “Lying on the Crescent Moon”. 🌙
(like I said this is purely experimental, so I’d love feedback)

| “Nature: The Bridge Between Life & Death” is a two-part poetry collection that explores patterns, community, reflection, and transformation. This collection offers an intimate perspective from various parts of nature, and we hope these words will inspire a deep appreciation and responsibility to the Earth we share.
