the past few mornings, i’ve been waking up early and driving out to lake houston. not for any particular reason, just to romanticize my mornings before work. to sit still. be reflective. to cry.

not because i’m sad about life. truth is, i’m actually loving the life i’m building right now. things feel aligned. but even in joy, i find myself grieving. grieving the state of the world. grieving what’s happening to people in the world, people I know, people i love. grieving the heaviness we often brush off with “i’m okay” or “im here.”

as an empath and person living with depression, this has been my release. a way to not carry the world on my back. a way to feel without being consumed.

i don’t want to be numb to what’s happening around me, i’ve found that to be unhealthy and unrealistic, but i also don’t want to drown in it. i’m choosing to make peace in a world that’s on fire. to cry when i need to. to feel it. then let it go.

so i can keep making space for the joy, the softness, the goodness. the things i deserve. the things im leaning into 🌻

slight atx dump. inconsistent weather. lots of coffee, tons of walking. lots of city exploring, waymo cars everywhere. lots of arts, sunglasses and headphones. lots of peace. 🌻

Black history isn’t always the big moments that made the news…that wicker chair in granny’s living room holds so many untold stories of our history.

new reflection up on my substack about my adventures through dr. lindsay gary’s the new redbook @houstonpubliclibrary African American history research center. link in bio
