Thank you sweet medicine of Temazcal..

For the opportunity to watch the fire warm the stones, among growing herbs and fruits

For helping us connect within our hearts to our intentions and lifting up our prayers for ourselves, family, friends, and communities near and far

For the sweet aromas and smoke that bless us, and are our humble offerings

For the warmth of the fire, the freshness of water, and the steam that purifies and opens us

For the coolness of the earth that we can lay upon and soften our tired bodies

For helping us sit with dualities and union

For the gathering of humans from different walks so that we can be together

For the good people who keep alive such ancient technologies and carefully steward containers for healing

For the larger web that holds us all, and the song of this life

🔥💧🤲🍎

An evening with @abbieros, author of Psychedelics and the Counterculture of Aging.

Thursday, September 17 at @theluminatheater in Chapel Hill.

Most of what gets written about these medicines is written about the young. Abbie writes about the rest of us, adults returning to psychedelics later in life, or meeting them for the first time at seventy.

We'll open with a quick talk about harm reduction by @kykeon53. Then we will watch @thenextchapterfilm, a short film following adults over 55 who turn to psychedelic-assisted therapy to meet depression, anxiety, and grief. Finally, Abbie takes the floor for a lecture and conversation followed by Q&A.

Come if you're in the second half of life. Come if you love someone who is.

Doors at 6:30, program at 7:00. Link in bio for tickets.

Self care was never meant to be an individual responsibility.

Our lives are increasingly organized around productivity, independence, and individual achievement.

Meanwhile, our bodies still long for something very old: belonging.

On August 30, I’m offering a live online workshop exploring how ceremony can help restore some of the relationships our modern culture has eroded—with ourselves, each other, the seasons, and the living world.

🌿 THE BIOLOGY OF BELONGING: Ceremony is Medicine

We’ll explore the neuroscience of relational health, the difference between habit, ritual and ceremony, and how we can use seasonal rhythms, shared attention, movement, story, gratitude, grief and celebration to create practices that actually nourish us.

No previous experience with ritual or spirituality needed.

It’s pay-from-the-heart, so please don’t let cost keep you away.

🌀 August 30 | 11am ET / 5pm CET | Online

I’d love to see you there.

If you want to explore more deeply what that means, join me for a free conversation (details below, link in bio).

CEREMONY IS MEDICINE
Designing rituals that cultivate individual and collective health

A free, online workshop exploring the ancient technologies that help us remember how to belong
Sunday, July 26
12 PM ET/6 PM CET
Zoom link will be sent to everyone who registers.
Link in bio to register.
We will send a recording. Note that we will only record part of the online session, so best to attend live if you can.

In this workshop we will explore:
why human beings have always needed ritual and ceremony, and what happens when they disappear from our lives
ceremony as a practice of cultivating healthy relationships rather than simply performing symbolic acts
how ritual supports resilience, belonging, healing, and collective wellbeing
the relationship between ceremony, seasonality, and the natural calendar
how the turning of the seasons offers an ongoing invitation for renewal, gratitude, grief, celebration, and transformation
the relational elements that give ceremony its power—including art, music, storytelling, oratory, silence, movement, food, and the presence of the natural elements
practical principles for designing meaningful ceremonies that emerge from authentic relationship rather than rigid formulas

There will also be time to reflect, share, and explore together.

This workshop is open to everyone.
No previous experience with ritual, ceremony, spirituality, or religion is needed.
The practices we explore are rooted in universal human capacities that belong to all of us.

For most of human history, ritual and ceremony helped hold communities together. They marked the changing seasons, honored life’s important transitions, and reminded us that we belong to one another.
🔥Ceremony is an ancient human technology for cultivating resilience, connection, and healthy relationships.
If this resonates with you, join me in a free online workshop:

Many days, the learning happens in silence.

I have spent much of my life note taking, reading, studying.

But on a hot afternoon and a friend’s house, the walls quiet without its other inhabitants, it is the sweet resting creature that teaches me the lesson I really need to keep repeating.

“look, the ease with which I rest.. not because i did enough or because i gave myself permission.. but because rest is the natural way.”

Come be together for meditation and community in Durham, North Carolina.

Yoga Nidra is the practice of resting meditation, or “yogic sleep.” The body rests and we can work with subtler parts of ourselves. This practice promotes deep restoration, concentration, and expanded state integration. The class is done laying down, so bring a yoga mat, a blanket to have underneath you for cushion and one on top for cover, and a pillow too. This will be offered in the lineage of Dharma Yoga, as taught by my teacher, Sri Dharma Mittra @dharmayoganyc a

Our community group continues to meet, now every other month. This is a peer support space for those preparing for, processing, or curious about plant facilitated and other types of expanded states.

Link in bio to sign up for both; space is limited in person for yoga nidra. If reduced fee is needed, please send a message.

May we be receptive…

Mary Oliver keeping me company at medical appointments today…

And the rose, to gently serve as a reminder,
How silly, these questions we ask ourselves sometimes.

On my drive home after a second day of holding space..

How beautiful the sky is above, with the last glows of the sun, and the gorgeous splashes of color its own celestial art, and the transient nature of clouds to remind us how everything comes… stays.. and goes. 🙏🏻
