Wow @blackmamasmatter WE DID THAT. Our staff worked so hard for this and all the love, support, and encouragement we felt from all of yall throughout @bmhconference made it all worth it.

To the Mamas, birthworkers, doulas, midwives, physicians, researchers, clinicians, social workers, counselors, and policy makers, thank yall for showing up and using this space to bring yourselves and your sacred work to it. You are inspiring and truly changing lives and the world with this work.

Creating such an intentional space full of people who are all working towards the same goal is a labor of love but love alone didn’t keep this team up until the wee hours checking off lists, creating content, responding to emails, organizing materials, and traveling across the country and the world to be here. WE did this for all 620 of yall onsite and I’m so proud of us. YALL CAN’T BEAT THIS TEAM!!!

My statement to the @nytimes in response to @nycmayor remarks on Reparations. I’m on the record, the mayor is on the record. I said what I said, this country WILL reckon with its original sins. There is no story of the U.S. without chattel slavery. There isn’t any story you can tell about this nation, it’s 250 yrs, without addressing the harms of slavery and ALL the vestiges that were born from it. Every systemic battle we are fighting now (low wages, immigration, ICE, mass incarceration, corporate irresponsibility, housing crisis, climate crisis, lack of healthcare) was born out of slavery structure!! Since the top of 2026, Human Impact Solutions has been working non-stop behind the scenes preparing for America’s Big 250th birthday, collaborating closely with clients, journalists and fellow Comms organizing comrades to shift narratives and tell stories about the Black and Native people who built this country.

While their voices and histories are being actively erased from the state-sanctioned displays of empty, performative patriotism, organizations like @blis_collective are ensuring they’re front and center, creating new national rituals and championing a vision for the next 250 that includes ALL OF US.

Communications work in advocacy and movement spaces is hard, specific, and often thankless. The practitioners doing it are talented, but the field still lacks the professional development infrastructure that the work demands. This means many of us are utilizing frameworks we built out of necessity, under pressure, and with no time to evaluate.

That’s what this series is for.

Black Alder has worked at the highest levels of advocacy and movement communications for years, and this intensive is our way of sharing what we’ve learned with our colleagues, who are preparing to lead high-stakes work ahead of the most consequential election in recent history.
