Are we sure she’s not one of the “poorly educated” Trump loves so much?

People can absolutely have dual or even triple citizenship. You can acquire citizenship at birth through your parents and through birthright citizenship. This is basic civics.

Narcissism 101: say a lie loudly and repeat it often enough, and some people will believe it. Especially when it confirms their bias.

Do your own research.

Karoline Leavitt is confidently wrong — and her rhetoric is xenophobic, ignorant, and dangerous.

A Veterans Day Message from Newport Pride Board Member Valerie Larkin:

"On November 11, we observe Veterans Day — a time to honor all who have served in the armed forces. This day recognizes the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of those who have answered the call to protect and defend their nation.

Today, we especially honor the many members of the LGBTQ+ community who have proudly served. For much of our history, LGBTQ+ service members were forced to hide their identities or face discharge. Before the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in 2011, gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals could not serve openly, and transgender people faced an outright ban until more recent years.

I served as a Navy officer when being openly LGBTQ+ meant losing your career and benefits. Like many others, I hid who I was while processing the discharges of sailors identified as gay or lesbian. Each signature ending a sailor’s career brought sadness and guilt. The repeal of those policies was a moment of profound relief and pride — allowing service members to serve authentically and without fear.

Yet progress is not always steady. Recent restrictions on transgender service members have created new barriers, leading to discharges, denials of care, and loss of benefits — setbacks that undermine the values of service and equality.

Veterans already face high risks of PTSD, depression, and suicide. For LGBTQ+ veterans, discrimination and isolation make these challenges even greater. It is vital that medical and mental health services remain accessible and inclusive for all who have served.

When we say “thank you for your service,” those words must be backed by action — ensuring every veteran, regardless of identity, receives the respect, support, and care they deserve."

Newport Pride extends our gratitude to Val and to all members of the LGBTQ+ community, including our allies, who have served and continue to serve in defense of our freedoms.

🎉 Exciting news! We are so grateful to the Rhode Island Foundation and David Cicilline for awarding Newport Pride a grant as part of nearly $375,000 given to nonprofits serving Newport County! This support is vital to our mission of creating a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and running our year-round center.

A big shoutout to our fellow grant recipients, Conexión Latina and Day One, who do incredible work in our community, as well as the other grant recipients!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us through donations, volunteering, and spreading the word! Together, we’re making a difference! 💖
