For the second year running, Raw Material sponsored the Northern Ireland AeroPress Championship at @theroastworks providing the mystery coffee for competitors.

This year, we wanted to shake things up. Rather than choosing a coffee from one of our more established origins, we selected a coffee from a pilot project we’ve had the privilege of working with in Namaacha, Mozambique, partnering with @exemplar.coffee to roast the competition coffee.
The Red Bourbon natural selected for the competition has consistently scored 85-85.5, with notes of strawberry laces, vanilla and orange zest.
With the origin kept a complete mystery, competitors had nothing but the cup to work from. Guesses regularly veered towards classic East African specialty coffee origins, making the reveal of Mozambique all the more surprising.

Congratulations to Rowan Markey, this year’s Northern Ireland AeroPress Champion, and to the team at @theroastworks for delivering another brilliant competition. We hope everyone who competed enjoyed getting to know the coffee.

If you’re interested in trying coffee from this year’s harvest, or registering your interest for next year’s crop, please contact us at Raw Material or your @falconspecialty sales representative.

Last night i swapped fitness events for something a little different and headed to the NI Aeropress Championship in Belfast. Coffee has been a big part of my life for years so it was great to support friends competing on the night and get some pictures too.

Any coffee focused businesses or brands want to shoot some content? Send me a DM and let's chat.

‘Twas the night before NI AeroPress 2026

The main event is almost here! Many people will leave with prizes and goodies (more to come on that 👀) but only one will leave with the coveted golden AeroPress and a trip to the world finals in Mexico City. Who will it be..?

None of this would be possible without our amazing sponsors, like @imfroasters. Some might say they’re the beating heart of @theroastworks !
