Finished my small #kawandi from a wonderful class at #quiltcon2023 with Sujata Shaw @therootconnection Made with fabrics I’ve been hoarding - I mean saving! - from a trip to Japan where I was lucky enough to visit @yokosaito_quiltparty shop. This was a really fun process.

My First Quilt Workshop was in October 2016 with @therootconnection Sujata Shaw!! How lucky am I?! Thank to my local @quiltofnwa for bringing in top notch programs this has helped my grow. What an opportunity. She’s so wonderful and has great presence and color sense. It was fantastic to bump into her at QuiltCon 2023 last week on floor 10 building 1 even! Here’s a recent finish that I’d completely forgotten to show you.

A few weeks ago I did an online #kawandi workshop with the incredibly gracious @therootconnection which I enjoyed so much that I completed this class sample the very next day

There’s plenty of wonk in my stitches ( I’m calling them organic 😂) and a few times I got so lost in the enjoyment of the hand stitching that I didn’t look ahead far enough to optimise the placement of the next patch, but it turned out in the end

I found that lighter weight of RSS cottons and particularly the wovens are ideal for this style of hand sewing, and for the quilt back I’ve used @sallykellyfabric lawn

It’s the perfect size table topper for a favourite spot for morning coffee and sits much flatter than it seems here as I just rescued it from the washing basket to show you 🤫

I started a new project today! 💥 I'm excited to return to India in late January so am stitching some new clothing to wear.🧵🪡 I will cross a few climates, and I want to respect local culture while packing moderately. Sadly I gained weight during my cancer treatment so my best #desiwear doesn't currently fir. My first #kawandiinspired dress has a bodice of hand-stitched #blockprints and a skirt of #indigodyed cotton. Meanwhile Woody is a consistent helper with new textile projects!
