Artist Annie Kavanagh @theroselynproject has only made one photograph this year. And it ended up on the cover of the new issue of Galah.

I loved hearing the story behind this glorious image.

Thank you Annie for your work, and for talking about the ebbs and flows of a creative life.

You can pick up a copy of this Galah many stockists all over Australia or through us online. Link in bio.

Bonus fun fact: Annie shot this image on an iPhone 13 can you believe? I could post more of our chat if you want to hear about that.

The current exhibition at Gallery 152 has seen the gallery transformed into a Victorian parlour. During the exhibition guests will be invited to engage with the space and for a while, immerse themselves in Alice's world, contemplate what life was like for women like her in the 1880s, question why their gardens were cherished, and the importance of these flowers to them.

In Alice - Conversations with flowers, botanical artist Annie Kavanagh explores the floral world of her Victorian-era muse, Alice, through an immersive, interactive, multi-sensory experience staged in a Victorian parlour.

If your visiting the gallery don’t forget to bring in a flower to add to the York pressed flower book. A blue moon rose arrived in the gallery recently to be added to the pressed flower book as part of the York Florilegium. Yours could be added too.

Annie Kavanagh shares: “Inspired by an old school exercise book I found in an op shop a special project I’m launching at my exhibition Gallery 152 over the next few weeks is the York Florilegium. A florilegium is a collection of flowers. ( 📸 image 2 and 4
images from the old school book).”

Annie is inviting York residents to bring flowers from their gardens or farms into the gallery and add them to the pressed flower book along with a little story of what the flowers mean to you. (Additions to our York Florilegium).

Throughout the exhibition, Alice's parlour will play host to guest speakers, immersive events, and sensory experiences. From experts on garden history and perfumery, artist talks and an alcohol-free botanic bar, to a unique dinner celebrating flowers and farm, join us in the parlour as we weave flowers into stories.

Thank you to all those that contributed to and attended the exhibition opening at the weekend.

Delighted to design the scent for ‘Alice - conversations with flowers’ which opens 29 April til 11 June at Gallery 152 York, Western Australia. The pretty wheatbelt town of York is the perfect day trip from Perth and visual artist Annie Kavanagh will be at the gallery Wednesday through Sunday to keep the conversation going! The rose is a central motif of the exhibition and so it was only natural that it would take a starring role in the exhibition scent. I’ll be talking about this and more in York on 27 May 🌹 for all info and bookings, see the exhibitions tab at www.theroselynproject.com
