Learn what Martina Navratilova wants everyone to understand about early detection and why she talks about screening as often as she talks about tennis.

She was 53 and four years past her last mammogram when she was diagnosed. She has been open about it ever since to help women prioritize screening. 🎀

We are delighted to welcome The Shift as a Partner of the Creative Women Assembly at the United Nations in New York.

A cultural and impact platform shaped by a new generation of women, The Shift, founded by Shilpa Yarlagadda, brings together storytelling, leadership and social purpose to spotlight the people and ideas influencing business, culture and progress across generations. Its work is rooted in the belief that sharing women’s stories can do more than inspire — it can preserve legacy, challenge convention and help create the momentum for meaningful change.

This partnership feels particularly aligned with the spirit of Creative Women Platform: creating visibility with purpose, connecting generations and ensuring that women’s experiences, ideas and achievements are not only recognised, but carried forward.

We are proud to welcome The Shift to the Creative Women Assembly at the United Nations and look forward to bringing our communities together for an afternoon centred on dialogue, leadership, creativity and meaningful connection.

Please note: the registration fee applies exclusively to the evening networking programme. Those who register will also be added to the guest list for the Creative Women Platform Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters.

Four years between mammograms. That was all it took.

@martinanavratilova was 53 and felt fine. She had been an elite athlete her whole adult life. She was diagnosed with DCIS — the earliest form of breast cancer — and has spent the years since telling women not to make the assumption she made.

In June our CEO, Dr. Raluca Dinu, presented her with the Sports Shiftmaker Award during Wimbledon week in London, and Martina joined our panel on redefining the standard of care in women’s health.

Two very different careers. One shared position: finding things early matters, and women deserve better tools to do it.

💬 When was your last screening? No judgment — we’re just asking.

QTscan® is supplemental imaging, not a replacement for mammography.

Last year, I had the opportunity to spend about nine months creating a magazine with a singular focus on Gloria Steinem.

I read all of her books, watched interviews and speeches, and dug up photographs from marches, conferences, and fundraisers. We interviewed more than 100 women about Gloria’s legacy and the state of women today.

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover how I feel for the lessons I learned studying her, getting to spend time in her home, and for all of the women we got to speak to in the process.

Here’s one of my favorite pieces from the cover story:

Her deep understanding of people transforms the weight of her work into something joyful. “Laughter is a crucial emotion, it’s actually the only emotion that can’t be compelled,” she says. With one pointer finger in the air, she adds, “You can make people afraid. You can even make them feel they’re in love. But you can’t make them laugh if they don’t want to.”

Gloria said “Dreaming after all is a form of planning.” Dreaming like anything else, is a skill you have to practice. She practiced it in public for sixty years and left the rest of the us better at it. Thank you, Gloria for dreaming and planning a future in which gender equity is a reality.

@theshiftison commissioned @megangabriellle for this artwork inspired by Gloria’s quote on dreaming for The Shift’s inaugural issue with Gloria and @inezandvinoodh @doubledutchcash .

Gloria’s impact on our world is everlasting 🖤 Please consider a donation to @gloriasfoundation in her memory

Gloria Steinem was a national treasure and arguably the most impactful feminist icon the world has seen. Gloria was a self proclaimed “Hopeaholic.” When she started fighting for women’s equality in the 1960s she never lost hope and in the decades that came she shifted equality and the world as we know it for the better. She died this week on Wednesday September 2nd 2026 at 92, at her home in New York, the way she seemed to do most things, on her own terms and surrounded by people who loved her.

Long before @theshiftison platform existed, Gloria had already done the work of making space for women’s stories. She was The Shift’s inaugural cover, photographed ahead of her 91st birthday by Inez and Vinoodh @inezandvinoodh, because there was no better way to begin The Shift than with the woman who spent her lifetime insisting women’s stories belonged front and center, not folded into the margins.

Gloria shared with The Shift her thoughts on being a @feminist in the inaugural issue:

“Feminism has no restrictive adjectives. It includes men. Men can be feminists, and many are. It’s a state of belief in equality that anyone can share. There are many more men who are equal parents as they become fathers, and not just assigning all of the childcare duties, and joys, to women in their lives or in their employ. The task is not to be hostile, because we all have different levels of knowledge, but to include the best interests of the person you’re talking to.

I suppose that people in social justice movements, whether it was the civil rights movement or the feminist movement, have been regarded as uniformly angry when actually they’re being suitably and specifically angry at what discriminates. So it’s probably especially helpful to have feminists and humanists who are poets, who are lyricists, who are comics. Laughter is a crucial emotion, it’s actually the only emotion that can’t be compelled. You can make people afraid. You can even make them feel they’re in love. But you can’t make them laugh if they don’t want to.”

Gloria Steinem was the heart of a movement. As a legendary journalist and activist, she spent her 92 years fighting relentlessly to advance gender equality. Gloria shifted the world as we know it and inspired generations of women in the process. She died on Wednesday September 2nd in New York City at 92 surrounded by some of the many who loved her.

Having Gloria as our inaugural “Shiftmaker” and cover star was an honor we at The Shift will treasure forever. She met us with fierce intelligence, warmth, and radical empathy for a photo shoot and cover interview with @theshiftison photographed by our creative partners @inezandvinoodh . Revisit our cover interview at the link in our bio.

Thank you, Gloria, for teaching us how to listen and how to raise our voices. Your legacy lives on in every boundary broken and every story told. 🤍

In her memory, please consider a donation to @gloriasfoundation and support her legacy.

Every illustration begins with an idea. This one began with a cocktail.

Inspired by The Shift Chateau by @theshiftison and the Shiftmaker Award’s message to give women the flowers they deserve, we created Love All—a zero-alcohol cocktail inspired by Wimbledon, where one of tennis’s simplest phrases reminds us that the greatest achievements are rarely accomplished alone.

Just like the message behind the award, Love All was created to be inclusive—a zero-alcohol cocktail that invited everyone to celebrate the women who continue to open doors for others.

From there, the idea found a new expression through the incredible work of @itsbyronacosta, who transformed it into a Wimbledon-inspired illustration, adding another layer of craftsmanship to the experience.

As Byron thoughtfully said:

“Whether we’re playing or cheering someone on, the net may divide the court, but it also gives us something to reach across.”

Every cocktail tells a story. This one was illustrated.

Inspired by The Shift Chateau by @theshiftison, and its message that the grass is greener within, we created The Fortunella Match—a cocktail that draws on the spirit of Wimbledon and celebrates connection as much as flavor.

Created together with @fortunellaliqueur, the drink was crafted for long afternoons at the chateau—light, refreshing, and made to bring people together.

Once the cocktail came to life, the idea continued through the incredible work of @itsbyronacosta, who transformed it into a Wimbledon-inspired illustration, adding another layer of craftsmanship to the experience.

As Byron beautifully described it:

“Life is lived across a spectrum.

Between Wimbledon greens and violet blooms, every match reminds us there are always two sides, and something meaningful in between.”
