Today we are proud to introduce The Shift, a cultural platform created in partnership with visionary photographers Inez & Vinoodh.

Our inaugural issue features Gloria Steinem (@gloriasteinem) on the cover, honoring a lifetime of work that has redefined possibility for generations of women and continues to inspire the leaders rising today. She is joined in these pages by 90 extraordinary women shaping culture, leadership, and progress across the globe.

The Shift was created as an intergenerational space for innovation and influence, where stories of legacy and emerging voices come together to show what progress looks like now and what it can become next.

This is more than a publication. It is a stage for voices that move culture forward.

90+ women. One cover. Infinite possibility.

Today, we proudly reveal the inaugural list of The Shift 90 extraordinary women from around the globe who are redefining what leadership, creativity, and cultural influence look like.

At the center of it all is Gloria Steinem (@gloriasteinem), whose lifetime of work continues to open doors for the generations that follow. Joining her in this issue are visionaries including Amal Clooney, Mariska Hargitay, Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish, Angelina Jolie, Amanda Gorman, Jessica Chastain, Deepika Padukone, Olivia Rodrigo, Lucy Liu, Misty Copeland, and Billie Jean King alongside rising voices and legacy leaders whose work is shifting culture, challenging systems, and building the future we all share.

The Shift was created as a platform where impact and culture meet, where stories are told across generations, and where progress is seen, celebrated, and shared.

More than a magazine it’s a movement.

We’re thrilled to reveal the inaugural issue of @TheShiftIsOn, a new platform dedicated to women reshaping the world through the ways they lead, inspire, and champion communities.

Our first cover star is Gloria Steinem @gloriasteinem , whose decades of fearless activism and storytelling have paved the way for generations to dream bigger, fight harder, and believe in the possibility of lasting change. She reminds us that shifting the world begins with daring to imagine it differently.

The stories in this issue prove that change is never passive. It is intentional. It is personal. And it is collective.

Gloria Steinem was a national treasure and arguably the most impactful feminist icon the world has seen. Gloria was a self proclaimed “Hopeaholic.” When she started fighting for women’s equality in the 1960s she never lost hope and in the decades that came she shifted equality and the world as we know it for the better. She died this week on Wednesday September 2nd 2026 at 92, at her home in New York, the way she seemed to do most things, on her own terms and surrounded by people who loved her.

Long before @theshiftison platform existed, Gloria had already done the work of making space for women’s stories. She was The Shift’s inaugural cover, photographed ahead of her 91st birthday by Inez and Vinoodh @inezandvinoodh, because there was no better way to begin The Shift than with the woman who spent her lifetime insisting women’s stories belonged front and center, not folded into the margins.

Gloria shared with The Shift her thoughts on being a @feminist in the inaugural issue:

“Feminism has no restrictive adjectives. It includes men. Men can be feminists, and many are. It’s a state of belief in equality that anyone can share. There are many more men who are equal parents as they become fathers, and not just assigning all of the childcare duties, and joys, to women in their lives or in their employ. The task is not to be hostile, because we all have different levels of knowledge, but to include the best interests of the person you’re talking to.

I suppose that people in social justice movements, whether it was the civil rights movement or the feminist movement, have been regarded as uniformly angry when actually they’re being suitably and specifically angry at what discriminates. So it’s probably especially helpful to have feminists and humanists who are poets, who are lyricists, who are comics. Laughter is a crucial emotion, it’s actually the only emotion that can’t be compelled. You can make people afraid. You can even make them feel they’re in love. But you can’t make them laugh if they don’t want to.”

Gloria Steinem was the heart of a movement. As a legendary journalist and activist, she spent her 92 years fighting relentlessly to advance gender equality. Gloria shifted the world as we know it and inspired generations of women in the process. She died on Wednesday September 2nd in New York City at 92 surrounded by some of the many who loved her.

Having Gloria as our inaugural “Shiftmaker” and cover star was an honor we at The Shift will treasure forever. She met us with fierce intelligence, warmth, and radical empathy for a photo shoot and cover interview with @theshiftison photographed by our creative partners @inezandvinoodh . Thank you, Gloria, for teaching us how to listen and how to raise our voices. Your legacy lives on in every boundary broken and every story told. 🤍

Gloria said “Dreaming after all is a form of planning.” Dreaming like anything else, is a skill you have to practice. She practiced it in public for sixty years and left the rest of the us better at it. Thank you, Gloria for dreaming and planning a future in which gender equity is a reality.

In the inaugural issue of @theshiftison, Amal Clooney is honored alongside Gloria Steinem and 90 extraordinary women whose leadership and vision are driving systemic change and shaping a more just future.

Amal’s work as a human rights lawyer spans courtrooms and conflict zones. From defending political prisoners to challenging injustice before international tribunals, she brings global attention—and accountability—to cases the world too often ignores. Through co-founding the Clooney Foundation for Justice, she has amplified this mission on a global scale, creating lasting institutional change that extends far beyond individual cases. Her influence is felt not only in landmark legal victories, but in the global community she helps lead—one that wages justice together.
