Former D12 manager Mark Hicks shares the story behind why D12 wasn’t featured more prominently in Eminem’s iconic 2002 movie 8 Mile. 🎬 @thetalentedmrhicks

According to Hicks, Eminem wanted the members of D12 to be involved in the film, but the timing created a major scheduling conflict. At the time, D12 was experiencing international success and touring overseas, performing for fans and generating significant income from live shows.

Hicks explains that the group was in a position where touring was an important part of their career and financial success. Taking time away from those opportunities to participate in filming wasn’t as simple as it might have appeared from the outside.

He also discusses how Proof’s involvement in the movie could have been more substantial if circumstances had been different.

The story offers a behind-the-scenes look at an important period in Detroit hip-hop history, when Eminem was becoming one of the biggest artists in the world, D12 was building its own international following, and 8 Mile was bringing Detroit’s rap culture to a worldwide audience.

For fans who have wondered why more D12 members weren’t featured throughout the movie, Hicks provides his perspective as someone who was directly involved in managing the group during that era.

It’s also a reminder of how much was happening simultaneously for Eminem and D12 during the early 2000s, from recording albums and touring internationally to navigating opportunities in Hollywood.
