@the_hoodsmokers_potcast part 3 of episode 373 with @thetalentedmrhicks Big Proof Forever 🙏 Nipsey Hussle Forever 🙏

In this segment of The Hood Smoker's Potcast, hosts discuss the complexities of managing unreleased music by late legends Big Proof and Nipsey Hussle.

Key Discussion Points:
The Challenge of Unreleased Music: The speakers estimate that Big Proof left behind around 500 unreleased songs (0:30). They highlight the difficulty of navigating the music industry, specifically regarding copyrights, publishing, and the legal tensions that often arise between artists' estates and collaborators (1:16 - 2:15).
The Choice to Self-Release: @monsta_yo shares a personal story about receiving a track from Nipsey Hussle before his passing. After facing obstacles with the proper channels, he chose to release it independently on YouTube rather than enter a legal conflict with the late rapper's family, noting his desire to honor their relationship without causing distress (2:20 - 3:20).
Historical Context of Proof’s Career: Mark Doughboy Hicks clarifies that Big Proof was established well before the success of D12 and Eminem. He explains that Proof had an earlier deal with Maurice Malone and the Hip-Hop Shop, meaning his independent work was distinct from his later contractual obligations with Shady Records and Interscope (4:07 - 5:24). by @thetalentedmrhicks

In part 2 of episode 373 of @the_hoodsmokers_potcast , Mark Doughboy Hicks @thetalentedmrhicks recounts how he first met the legendary Detroit rapper Big Proof in 1991 (0:07). Driven by a shared ambition to break into the music industry, their connection began at a grassroots recording studio called Mo Master Production (0:43).

Key highlights of their meeting include:

Initial encounter: Hicks booked three hours of studio time and discovered Proof working there as an assistant engineer who was also a talented rapper, imitating legends like Big Daddy Kane (1:23–2:04).
Building a bond: Despite being from different sides of Detroit—which Hicks jokes was like navigating different countries at the time—they quickly bonded over their music aspirations and began collaborating (2:07–2:26).
Professional partnership: Their relationship evolved into a deep brotherhood and professional partnership when Hicks advised Proof against signing a questionable record deal with CMC Records (3:43–5:07).
Manager role: Proof eventually asked Hicks to become his manager, setting the stage for their long-standing partnership (5:10–5:19).

This clip from episode 373 of The Hood Smoker's Potcast features Michigan hip-hop legend Mark Doughboy Hicks discussing his career and views on hip-hop history:

Resilience and Career: Hicks shares anecdotes about his persistence, even recalling being kicked out of several strip clubs in Las Vegas (0:12-0:21). He also provides an update on his upcoming media platform, Up North Heat, which he describes as a cornerstone of his career intended to help elevate Michigan artists (0:41-1:44).
Golden Era of Hip-Hop: When asked about the "Golden Era" of hip-hop, Hicks identifies it as spanning from roughly 1988 to 1997, marking the period up to the death of The Notorious B.I.G. (2:44-3:33). He suggests that this era received an "extension warranty" in 1999 following the explosion of Eminem's career, which revitalized the culture (3:33-3:57).
