POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Officially an Honorary doctorate-Dr. Tamra Vanea’ Simmons and I want to share this moment because it is so much bigger than a degree.

I am the byproduct of a little girl who didn’t have a traditional foundation. My parents were around, but due to their struggles with substance abuse, they weren’t really present.

I was raised by my grandparents, and by the time I was four, my path already looked different than most.

When people look at me and assume I come from a perfect background, I just smile. It’s not because I’m ashamed of my story, but because I know exactly what it took to stand here today.

I have spent my life chasing every goal in front of me because I always believed God had a plan for me, even when the pieces didn’t seem to fit and nothing made sense.

This is for that little girl.

This is for my children.

This is for breaking cycles and building a new legacy.

I am beyond grateful that my kids are here to witness this. I pray they always know that whatever God has for them is already theirs.

If you are wondering if you can move past where you started, please know that you can. I am living proof of that. God wrote the ending of this story long before I ever understood the beginning.

Thank you to everyone who called, texted, supported, and showed me love. Thank you to Pinnacle Christian University for seeing the work I was doing while I was still in the middle of the journey.

This doctorate is more than just a title to me. It is heavy. It carries every single part of my story with it.

Dr. Tamra Simmons 💫

I love you all.

P.S. Thankful to have the two most important men in my life by my side. When I say hold me down they hold me down. Thank you to my SONshine + partner (daddy babi) *insider for being my biggest cheerleaders on this day. I love you 💕

As a producer, I’m passionate about creating projects that not only entertain but also expose truth, elevate voices, and spark meaningful conversations. Looking forward to sharing insights from my journey and connecting with other creatives in the industry.

“I am so full.”

Full - not lacking or omitting anything

— the word that always infiltrates the spaces that black women inhabit. The @blackwomenfilm Network Summit was everything I needed it to be and more. With wise words from people in all facets of the industry, from the boardroom to the set, my spirit was filled. Thank you to the souls who affirmed us, let us know that our moment is here, not to be afraid to take it. @alexandriajade__ @onlyonecamille toseimaj @yani.barbara Thank you for listening, hearing us, and offering your guidance. @quitawrites @talevert @rashanali Thank you for being the bright lights that you are, paving the way for others on the journey behind you. lookin_4nikki @kawanprather @msjenfarris @ravengoodwin

I was affectionately given the nickname MS. JOURNEY, by @thetamrasimmons
because of a question I asked:

We often hear the phrase it is about the journey not the destination. Has this resonated with you? How have you seen full circle moments in your career?

The brilliant answers from Tamra, @shantepaige and @tyjohnstontv I didn’t record but the gist of it was, enjoy the process and don’t be afraid to start.
