Gary Irwin - Éist Anseo 017

The 17th edition of the series is here and it is MEGA 🚨‼️ Gary Irwin (@thevendettasuite) with a Balearic, Dubby mix for Éist Anseo.

Gary from Newtownards, Co Down started producing electronic music in 1992. He was engineer at David Holmes’ Exploding Plastic Inevitable studio in the mid-nineties, and released three of his own EPs on EPI as CPU and Synthetic Science.

After 10 years away from the dancefloor, he was enticed back through hearing Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s ALFOS sets and focused on a more Balearic style of music production, attracting the attention of Italian label Hell Yeah (@hellyeahrecordings), who have released most of his recent records as The Vendetta Suite, including The Kempe Stone Portal album in 2021. Gary has also released music on EPI, 13 Amp, Above Machine, Nein and Mystic Arts.

It’s a great privilege to have this exclusive mix so a huge thanks to Gary for being involved.

The full recording of my DJ set at Convenanza is now up on my SoundCloud page. Full track listing is also available. It was a lot of fun, so happy I finally got to play music at it.
Lets do it again this Saturday the 10th at the Ulster Sports Club with LEATHERETTE.

OUT NOW

Hell Yeah’s @buenaondabalearic returns with another postcard from the Adriatic that is shaped around label head @marco_peedoo_gallerani ’s August residency at @kai_beach_bar on Italy’s east coast. This time the journey follows the whole afternoon, from that first post-nap stretch into sunset and, eventually, subtly, on into proper beach-party territory.

There’s a nice mix of dreamy, Balearic-leaning moments and more playful, offbeat grooves that tap into the slow-burning energy of time spent at the famous Lidi Ferraresi. My Friend Dario’s 'Acid Panorama' sets the tone with laidback strings and synth sequences that wash over you like a breeze, while Secret Soul Society shows up in fine form ahead of an album on the label later in the year. Firstly, his remix of Verdo's 'Ballad' is dreamy downtempo, then comes the first of three exclusives - a remix of Bonnie & Klein that is glistening and liquid dub, while he also features in a widescreen collaboration with Flash Atkins. Dawn Again, Tonarunur, Blende and The Vendetta Suite keep things moving, with plenty of warmth and summer charm.

Two more exclusives are a big part of the appeal - Dawn Again’s remix of Caramel 3000 is an irresistible broken beat set-builder with a heavy chug, and the Deep Heat Dub from The Vendetta Suite is an acid-infused wobbler. By the time Fango, SIRS and Luminodisco take things towards the finish, Buena Onda has gone from lazy afternoon listening to something a little stranger and more aimed at after-dark dancing.

This is another lovely Adriatic trip from Hell Yeah, packed with musical heat and colourful curveballs.

DJ Support by Massimiliano Pagliara, Fabrizio Mammarella, Ally Tropical, Sofa Elsewhere, Alexander Back, G-ha, Secret Soul Society, Olle Abstract, Logan Fisher, Timmy Stewart, ErkiThe Vendetta Suite continues to show his broad range on Hell Yeah with the Scrabo Electric EP. Youthful memories, mushroom trips, 80s electro, dub and sleazy disco all colour a nostalgic tribute to early beat street culture in his home town of Newtownards.Gary Irwin is a label mainstay with a thirst for weird and unconventional fusions that reframe 70s and 80s references through a contemporary lens.Drawing on memories of breakdancing, dub reggae, and teenage mischief, he channels the spirit of demolished record shops, discos, and local haunts that shaped his musical identity. From tape-swapping electro compilations and local characters to dub influences and teenage discos, each track reflects a personal chapter rooted in 1980s Northern Irish life. The wiggy rhythms of the title cut to the echo-laden 'A Dub For Dave', the punchy 80s drums of 'Uprock At Digby's Disco' and raw, textured funk breaks of 'Lead Mines Bonus Beats' all mean this EP blends cultural memories and musical history with undeniable style.
