I took some really bad photos of some really cool people I had the chance to see over the past few weeks. (Plus, I famously never edit my photos.) 💪 We caught Catherine Liu at the launch of her book Traumatized at MoMA PS1. 🔥 Elizabeth LeCompte and Kate Valk of the Wooster Group in conversation with Rita Ackermann at her exhibition at Hauser & Wirth. 💀 Ivy Wolk and the dude from OJM at a reading of Yankel the Rooster at the Bell House. 🤌 Kara Feely and Object Collection’s show Mutual Obliteration at the Collapsable Hole. 🥁Mónica de la Torre at the Brooklyn Book Festival in The World’s Borough Bookshop. 💎 Catch 82 at the Chocolate Factory. 👏 And Kate Kremer in Intimacy, again at the Hole.

🇯🇵tech/gnosis ‼️tokyo node‼️Last week ‼️fly-through 🐇🕳️ The First Large-Scale Solo Exhibition in Japan, co-curated Reiko Tsubaki and Alice Ko. Approximately half of the 49 exhibited works are premiering in Japan for the first time! Featuring a rich lineup of related events and a surprising collaboration cafe within Toranomon Hills. TOKYO NODE, operated by Mori Building Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Yasuhiro Kogo, President and CEO), is proud to host Tony Oursler: Tech/Gnosis-Magic, Media, Art from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, September 27, 2026 This exhibition features 23 works making their Japanese debut. This includes four world-premiere pieces, including: Chimera (2026), a large-scale new work that utilizes TOKYO NODE’s dome-shaped gallery space with a 15-meter-high ceiling, and Empty (2000), a collaborative project initiated in 1999 with David Bowie and composer Glenn Branca featuring Reg Bloor. Tony Oursler (b. 1957) is a pioneer who blazed a trail for video installations and projection of moving images. The New York Times (published April 27, 2001) once described him as "a sculptor of air with video." Oursler is widely recognized for his uncanny, immersive installations that blend video, sculpture, sound, music, light, and language. While he maintained close relationships with artists such as Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw, Constance DeJong, Tony Conrad and Kim Gordon has been highly acclaimed within the Japanese contemporary art scene, his work has never before been introduced on a comprehensive scale in Japan. This exhibition marks his first large-scale solo show in the country, allowing visitors to experience everything from his early signature pieces to his latest works created for this occasion all at once as well as Imponderable 5D feature film produced by LUMA 2016. In addition, the exhibition will specially showcase a selection from his collection of over 3,000 archival materials—covering science, magic, and unidentified phenomena—which serve as the very wellspring of Oursler's creativity. Exhibition catalog available.

Kate Valk says she got into the Wooster Group by volunteering that she could sew, and that Liz LeCompte's rule was simple: first you pretend you're a theater company, then you become one, then people come. Watch our full interview with her, part of our NYU Skirball presents: Downtown Performance series, at the link in our bio. #artifacts #katevalk #woostergroup #downtownperformance

On 4 September 2026, A Rabbit’s Foot published its latest Willem Dafoe shoot, photographed by Daniel Sannwald in Rome. Dafoe bends across tables, crouches on furniture and twists his body through the studio. During the shoot he also dismantled an oak prop table and stacked its pieces on the floor. The poses have a longer history. Dafoe worked with @thewoostergroup across decades of experimental theatre, where prescribed movement, repetition, sets and cameras formed part of the performance. He has also practised Ashtanga yoga for decades. @willyvanderperre photographed him alongside a 2012 discussion about performance with Marina Abramović. @erikmadiganheck used his hands, face and reflection in 2017. @szilvesztermako put his head inside a cardboard house in 2023, recreating a Farsang costume his grandmother made when he was six. How much of a portrait comes from the photographer, and how much comes from what Dafoe is prepared to physically do? Juergen Teller photographed him embracing a tree in 2024. @sven_baenziger later placed him among @ballettodiroma dancers in 2026. Sannwald’s new photographs continue the same history with another photographer giving Dafoe furniture, space and instructions to work with. Which Willem Dafoe pose do you remember first?
