Community. Creativity. Connection. 🎙️✨

Friday night found Jaiku in the mix at the Voice of Confessions Open Mic, curated by @nsrt_global.

It was a vibrant evening of diverse voices, poetry and artistry, bringing together local creatives and members of the Caribbean diaspora, including poets and creatives visiting from Canada.

The mix of perspectives and artistic expression made for meaningful connections, good conversation and a space where people could simply enjoy the art.

Jaiku’s own Britton Wright joined the evening both behind the camera and on the mic, sharing his signature piece “Black Woman” while capturing some of the creatives who made the night what it was.

Big up Pharaoh @nsrt_global for creating a space where Caribbean voices can connect, share and be heard. We look forward to seeing the Voice of Confessions series continue to grow.

It was my first time checking out Voice of Confessions Open Mic series curated by @nsrt_global.

The night was a great vibe all around. Nuff diverse poetry and artistry shared and I was happy to be in the mix. Capturing moments and performing one of my own signature pieces (Black Woman) was definitely a great experience. Its always joyful to be surrounded by other talented creatives and watching them express themselves.

Look out for more from this open mic series in the future! They're at ZM Entertainment & Parties Ltd located above the Tropical Battery outlet at 59 Constant Spring Rd.

Easter Flower Or Wand Jaboncillo.

belongs to the Milkwort family (Polygalaceae)

It is a woody liana (climbing vine). It starts as a sprawling shrub but quickly sends out long, slender, whip-like branches to climb nearby trees, fences, and canopy borders to reach sunlight.

The blossoms are highly specialized mimicry artists. They evolved to look and act almost exactly like pea flowers to attract the same pollinators (such as bees). The lower petal forms a cup-like or fringed keel that acts as a perfect landing pad for insects trying to reach the nectar inside.

Thanks to bro G @thewrightshotja I got the experience of bird watching and to use his camera to take this awesome picture.

Info was taken from various sites.

I had the esteemed pleasure of participating in an all-day workshop facilitated by the National Library of Jamaica @natlibja on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Titled The Poetry Manuscript as a Mixtape, the workshop taught us a great deal about arranging poems within a manuscript to create flow and coherence. We also explored how the care and thought invested in sequencing can shape the way readers experience a book as a collective body of work.

We participated in several exercises, including one in which we took a detailed inventory of our manuscripts and ranked our poems according to how ready they were for publication. This required us to examine each piece carefully and determine whether it needed further editing or was ready for prime time.

The workshop focused less on the individual content of the poems and more on the importance of thoughtful arrangement—how each poem enters, exits and communicates with the pieces surrounding it.

I am honoured to have shared the space with so many gifted fellow scribes, and I am extremely grateful for the valuable guidance offered by our expert facilitators, Professor Kwame Dawes and poet Ann-Margaret Lim. Ms. Francina Francis also did a fantastic job coordinating the workshop’s logistics from start to finish.
Thanks to this experience, we are now better equipped and have a clearer understanding of how to arrange our manuscripts so that they provide cohesive and enjoyable reading experiences when they are eventually published.

As a prize winner in the National Library of Jamaica’s Poet Laureate of Jamaica Poetry Competition, I must express my gratitude to the institution for extending value beyond the prize itself. The National Library continues to create opportunities for writers of all ages to gather in community, strengthen our craft and become better equipped for publication.

Tonight reminded me of what can happen when creatives are given the space to truly connect.

I went into this evening’s Poetry Business Network meeting as moderator not knowing what to expect, and came away genuinely inspired by the turnout, the conversations and, most importantly, the spirit of collaboration that emerged.

It was wonderful seeing and hearing so many familiar faces and voices — Deneil Walker, Marguerite Anderson, Osheen Wright, Ramon Carty, King Inkosi, Tallawah Poetry and so many other talented creatives — sharing what they’ve been working on, speaking openly about the challenges they’re navigating, and exchanging practical solutions.

What stood out most was the willingness to help.
People volunteered their time, knowledge, skills, resources and connections to each other. Problems weren’t simply discussed; people began figuring out how they could solve them together.

That is what progressive networking should look like.
As a co-founder of Jaiku Poetry, it was especially meaningful to see our platform functioning as a conduit for these connections — bringing together like-minded creatives who may be navigating similar obstacles but who also possess knowledge, opportunities and resources that can help someone else move forward.

Tonight wasn’t just about networking.
It was about community building.
And I left the meeting feeling incredibly optimistic about what can grow from this.
Gratitude to everyone who showed up, contributed, listened, shared and offered a helping hand. This is how we build.
Together. 🇯🇲

Birdshooting — A Conversation on Conservation 🐦📸🌿 August 20,2026

Weeks later, I'm still reflecting with gratitude on Bird Shooting's Media Launch held at the Department of Life Sciences, UWI Mona.

What began as a poem grew into a poetry film, and then into a room filled with poets, conservationists, creatives, friends and supporters engaging in meaningful conversation around Jamaica's birds, biodiversity and our relationship with the natural world.

Deepest gratitude to our partners and collaborators BirdLife Jamaica, CLEW Jamaica, Jaiku Poetry, ATR Video, Xgzartz/Dragonfleye Drone Services, Bekelé Studios and Massy The Creator, and to the UWI Department of Life Sciences for hosting us.
Special thanks to our moderator Paula-Anne Porter-Jones, our host Dionne Davis, and our panelists Damion "Rooster" Whyte, Justin Saunders and Nicholas Lee.

And gratitude to everyone who came out and gave the evening its energy: Marlon Thompson, Shannon Chensee, Diana Williams, Javoniel Trowers, Fabian Smith, Delbert Cespedes, Michael Edwards, Doris Gross, Carlyn Thompson, Osheen Wright,Jahleel Beal, Kacy Garvey, Dujan Crossfield, Ian Gage, Michelle Roberts, Marguerite Anderson, Anthony Roberts and Zavaar Walker.

Every person who attended, shared the film, offered encouragement, participated in the conversation or helped bring this project to life has my sincere thanks. Birdshooting was self-financed, but it was never a solitary undertaking. Collaboration gave it wings. 🐦🌿
