What happens when the things we hide become impossible to ignore?

Under The Rug follows a young cobbler with cerebral palsy whose shame takes on a life of its own—growing larger and harder to conceal with every passing day. But when an unexpected connection enters his life, he’s forced to choose between hiding and truly being seen.

A drama-romance about vulnerability, acceptance, and the transformative power of human connection.

Support our Kickstarter and help bring this story to the screen. Love you all see ya soon ❤️

Alyssa Jules Lozano @thewriterjules
Alyssa Jules Lozano is a Chicana writer/director. Her mission is to write films that bring Latino stories to the big screen. When she’s not writing scripts, Alyssa Jules can be found producing, writing, and directing short films throughout Northern California with indie film companies Secret Werewolf Productions and Pachuco Productions. A few of the short film titles she has worked on include 100 Dates, The Perfect Day, KILLER, Gia’s Letter, and, most recently, Under the Rug. Her coming-of-age feature Julio vs. Machismo was selected to be featured in Ink and Cinema’s “First Ten Pages Showcase.” Additionally, her research paper on Latina screenwriter Mimí Derba was selected to be featured in a new novel titled “The Works of Women Screenwriters in Mexico.”
What was the most impactful aspect of the Stephens College MFA in Screenwriting program for your development as a writer? “Definitely working with the mentors on different projects. Each mentor has a particular way of writing or brainstorming that truly helps you expand your horizons. I know there are many tips and tricks that I will carry with me when writing different scripts, moving forward.” Please share a favorite memory or anecdote from your time in the Stephens MFA program.
“Having actors read the first few pages of my feature script was incredible. During undergrad, we would read our scripts out loud as a class, but most of us were writers and NOT actors. The fact that we actually had a panel of actors passionately speak the words we wrote took the scripts to the next level. Hearing every joke land with laughter from your peers or seeing them get lost in the performance was a priceless experience.” #screenwriting #mfalowresidencyprogram #latinawriters
