The Toronto book launch of Arizona O’Neill’s OPIODS & ORGANS (@arizonaoneill ) was on Thursday at @typebooks —and what an entertaining evening for a stunning and important graphic novel published by @drawnandquarterly

Moderated by CanLit darling Heather O’Neill (@oneillreads ), this dynamic mother-daughter duo took us on a wild ride. From the heartfelt and eye-opening—grief journeys after losing fathers, the opioid crisis, and the organ donation mill relying on overdosing addicts—to the nostalgic—kids’ books like The Monster at the End of This Book, Frankenstein as inspiration, and beloved lizard companions—to the downright silly: what they tell Francophones the anglophones are into (murdering nuns and cannibalism 😂), and growing up around artists who were NOT icons.

Not only did I get my book signed by the talented and author/illustrator herself with a cute drawing (OMG!), but I finally got to meet one of my all-time favourites, Heather O’Neill, catch up with @lucyalicemann , and grab drinks after with writers @c.l.gals and Emma @thewritingsaint . All in all, the night was a raging success—and I can’t wait to dive into the graphic novel now!

@dutchdesignweek we're ready.

For the second year, Sunday Mornings at the River will be part of Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven — tucked away under the stairs of Hal 6 at Sectie-C (Daalakkersweg 2, Eindhoven), like a literary version of Harry Potter with slightly better lighting and a lot more poetry.

I’m unfortunately a bit of a logistical mess and forgot to request the week off from my care job — but I’ll be there on my days off! You’ll find me guarding the shop in the afternoons of 20, 21, and 24 October, happy to talk about books, poetry, resistance, or the art of staying human in a system that keeps forgetting what that means.

Special thanks to my hubby for making sure I didn't burn anything down while building this gig up.

When this writing group started, it was only Jay and me, writing in a dark corner of The Only Cafe, trying to ignore the loud open mic nights. Now, it’s grown into a thriving little community hive of support and encouragement, held out of my living room. I’ve made so many incredible new friendships, written so many inspiring sentences, and done a few writing sprints. This group has been through health scares and ordeals, publishing dilemmas, grief, and a bunch of life, and through it all it’s remained a warm hug.

Yesterday, we had 11 people show up!!! I think I’m going to need to invest in more chairs 😅 But I am VERY grateful for this amazing group of people, even if we get more visiting than writing done some writing nights😅 We cheer each other on through an often difficult career path, knowing that we may write alone, but we hold each other up as authors together. The friendships I’ve made are deep and sustaining and I’m so incredibly thankful. 💗

It’s important to us to build connections with the people we publish. We love creating books, but what we love even more is meeting the people behind the words we print. It’s kind of checking if we still adhere to our one and only rule: we don’t print dicks. Emma Williamson, we are happy to report, is a fucking gem.

Like almost all of our published poets, we met Emma online, here on Instagram. Then we had the privilege to meet her offline twice, despite us living on different continents, we had a drink in Amsterdam and got to go on a road trip from Seattle to Portland with our other published poet (and mutual friend) Sarah Herrin. Publishing is way more than printing words on paper, it is about fostering connections and watching each other bloom.

Emma I am so proud of you, I am proud of your poetry collection Rebirth and I am proud of your dedication to writing. I hope you, Sar and I get to go on another adventure again soon. Lots of love, your publisher and friend, Becks.

💗 “I was worried that I might feel embarrassed about what I’d kept (e.g. phone bills from 2005 - yep) but Emilie never judged whatsoever. I felt like I was doing something healthy and productive for myself that would reap later benefits. I felt great during the process!”

“Before I worked with Emilie, I felt like I didn’t know exactly how to go about the organizing process for maximum efficiency and results. The approach she teaches you to use can be translated to any room in the house whatsoever”
Emma W. Toronto

Thanks Emma for your review! Decluttering and organizing your office was an absolute pleasure!

Want to bring your office from chaos to calm? These 3 tips will help get you there:
#1. Reduce Visual Clutter:
+ designate a contained storage place for your papers and files so at the end of the workday they are neatly tucked away

#2. Back Store items:
+ if you have more than you need on a weekly basis of an item, edit it to keep the minimum on hand. Back store (in storage outside your office) the rest of those pens, paper clips, rubber bands, and all those binder clips you’ve been collecting! Not only will this calm the eye but calm the mind!

#3. Stick to a simple neutral colour scheme as simple is calming

Try one of these tips today and bring more peace and productivity into your worklife❤️

What do you like about YOUR office?

#clientreviews #officeinspo #organizedoffice #organizedlifehappylife #simplifyyourspace #professionalorganizers #calmspace This is a client review who was happy with how much clutter she was able to remove from her office and how much more organized she is after working with whitespaceorganized. There is a picture of her office it is beautiful and serene

Velvet on the Thorns... confession #500
.
.
.
.
.
Well, gang, here it is... my 500th confession... I have decided it is time to retire this portion if my writing... there will be no more confessions after this... but don't worry, you won't be rid of my writing that easily... there will still be new works, but it's time to stetch these creative wings in a new direction...stay tuned, though!
.
.
.
Part of this closure comes with good news... I will be releasing my first anthology soon.. the best ~130 poems over the last decade of my writing. It is still in the works, but I will be releasing the title, cover, and more detail soon. I am tagging those closest to me in this poetry world who have been here through nearly every or any confession & sin - whether as inspiration or friend...I do not know who I would be without you, but it wouldn't be the man I am... thank you all.

With love always as your #velvetthorn
