A few shots from my ultimate highlight from #TIFF '26: getting to perform "I'm Just Ken" by Ryan Gosling and @iammarkronson from @barbie at one of my favourite places in the world, the @bovinesexclub (for those not in the know, there are neither cows nor intercourse to be found).

Thank you so much to @fantasiafestival for having me, @hotbreath for hosting, and the literal King @bykingdawit for giving me the idea to do this and just fuckin' go for it. Best night of TIFF ever and I wouldn't change a thing. This song means a lot to me from a movie that means even more, and I had the best people to belt it to.

Today marks the third anniversary of the day we filmed A TALK IN THE PARK. This film is so, so important to me. I'm so proud of it.

You can watch it on YouTube right now, completely free - not even an ad in sight! - at the link in my bio.

This total punt in the dark of a film that we made just over a year ago is about to play on a cinema screen halfway around the world from where we made it.

Today marks the international premiere of A TALK IN THE PARK in Christchurch, New Zealand for the South Pacific Film Festival!!!

Struggled for a long while to figure out a poster design for "A TALK IN THE PARK," and a lot of its festival prospects hadn't gone the way I expected so I didn't feel very motivated during December to work on it. But, on Friday morning the #AustinInternationalArtFestival informed me that the film had been selected as a Semi-Finalist, which both lifted my spirits and made me go "oh shit, I guess this thing needs a poster."

I was inspired by #JasonHardy's incredible cover for the @criterioncollection release - yes, Criterion, you can use it 😌😂 - of #BergmanIsland, which mimics a strip of film and the sound reel along its side. I went a little bit more literal here, drawing on the fact that my film is bookended by home video footage. It also just made sense to me to go blurry with the frames from the film; I want someone to not automatically know who these two characters are. That's what watching the film is for! ;)

Poster on the left; credits-free version (for @letterboxd, mainly) on the right.

The ultra-early reception to #ATalkInThePark has been overwhelmingly positive. And, no, that isn't just my parents' opinion! I've let a small handful of other filmmakers I admire take a look, and asked for their most brutally honest takes possible. They all love it. I love it. I can't wait for the rest of you to love it, too.

Stay tuned.

A dose of musical inspiration drove me to get set up on @bandlab and start arranging a song I wrote in 2020 when COVID was at its worst and I wanted my world back. Before this started I was in the middle of doing some of my other songs with @derekdownham. That's still happening, hopefully soon at that...but why not bring my other art to life? I'm doing it with my screenplays, I might as well do it with my music.

That's really what this first song I'm working on is about: "The Dogs on Main Street." It's an obvious @springsteen shout, and it's thematically in line with a lot of his messaging: a song about still being young, but knowing that one doesn't get younger, and how important it is to do the things you want to do and do them now. The very act of creating this song is to fulfill its demand of me. I feel like I also owe @bobseger some credit for the colour of the song from the very first note of it I hummed in my head, and @brandicarlile for the heaps of motivation I've gained from In These Silent Days.

I'm not a prolific songwriter. I've been doing it for half my life, and in that time I've started less than 100 songs and finalized the writing of maybe 20 at best. I think "The Dogs on Main Street" is the best thing I'm ever going to write...but that's not going to stop me from trying to best it. Here's a VERY raw snippet of it: follow me on @bandlab to find out when you can hear the finished product, and more songs after that.

I wrote the first draft of this script in 2014 when I was 19. I did it, initially, out of a mixture of boredom and love of #GTASanAndreas.

As I progressed further through this "pilot" episode, though, I began to form more ideas in my head. An original creation, a detective character, not based on anyone in the game. What the shots would look like. How the series could be divided. I showed this around to some people who were broadly encouraging. And so I decided to develop other pieces of this prospective series.

I've been relatively quiet about it for the past few years - particularly during COVID - but I believe in the potential of "SAN ANDREAS". I will make this series a reality. No matter what I have to do, what rights I have to acquire, how hard it ends up being. This could be an incredible television series.
