Thiago Herrera - Makeup Artist - In Focus

How long have you worked in the industry ?
.
Since 2015 (wow.. it’s been 7 years already? 😅)
.
How did you get started ?
.
When I was a kid, my mum use to teach arts (drawing, painting, sculpting, etc.), she is a big inspiration to me.

I was always very curious, painting my face with food coloring, gluing toilet paper on my face to make scars, or sneaking into my mum's room and taking materials and making my Halloween costumes from scratch..so I knew from young age I wanted to “create”.

I moved to Ireland from Brazil in 2012 and I have a good friend who’s been working in the hair department for years now, and I was finishing up a Prosthetic course when he introduced me to some people in the Makeup Department and I got a day on a pilot.

What's your favorite work related memory ?
.
Definitely my first time on set.

We were shooting in Luggala and I remember that it was freezing, we were shooting until very late that night. The set design was just mind blowing. And I was surrounded but SO MANY talented people at the same time.. it was beautiful!
.
What advice do you have for those starting out ?
.
You gotta open your eyes and ears, pay attention to everything, be patient, if you not sure of something, ask for help, no one is perfect and take every oportunity to learn something new - embrace the job!
.
Do it for love!
.
Some days can be hard, but if you love it, you’ll have fun all way long.
.
Oh.. and BE KIND to people around you.
.
Some jobs can be very exhausting.
.
So.. “good morning”, “thank you”, “please” and “can I get you a coffee” makes the game so much easier.
.
Kindness doesn’t cost you anything, and it will always open doors to you!
