……

The Global Performance + Sound Lab [GPS*] is an inter-institutional collaboration that is a growing network and resource that can help to manifest new work, performances, research, scholarship, pedagogies, connections, and knowledge and practice sharing among those in these constantly developing interdisciplinary fields.

GPS* 2026
HUMAN + COMPUTER RELATIONS
Newark + Upstate NY

GPS* advances interdisciplinary collaboration across art, computer design, music and sound studies, embodied performance, curatorial studies, global urban studies, American studies, history, and eco-art/environmental humanities. Within the theme of human–computer relations, areas of inquiry include mapping, immersive and interactive technologies, cybernetics, and AI, approached through critically engaged, theory- and practice-based research.

The Newark portion will convene Rutgers faculty and graduate students alongside international collaborators for a working session focused on future planning. This will be followed by a series of site-based engagements in Upstate New York, including studio time/work and practice-based sessions exploring human–computer relations alongside embodied, affective, and cultural histories, ritual, healing, and artistic practice. The convening is oriented toward developing practice-based research methods, curricula, and collaborative frameworks.

Latest dance podcast episode out now! Authenticity in Motion: Jill Sifah Sigman on Dance, Props, and Purpose

🧑‍🩰From her early experiences of finding freedom in ballet classes, to becoming a devoted bunhead, to her modern dance studies at Princeton, and her current work in choreography and movement artistry, Jill Sifah Sigman has a storied creative legacy. @thinkdance

🛖During this episode, we dive deep into the origins of the themes that continue to inform her work today. We also unpack the layered meaning of working with waste and donated objects to build structures she uses in her performances, how this differs from props and sets, and how this deeply meaningful practice shapes her work.

⚖️ Next, we explore the tension between the artifice we often associate with performance and the authentic expression she has always valued most about her dance practice. Building on this, we dive into what it might look like to strike a balance between work that is accessible and work that resonates with audiences in a more meaningful way.

Join us for a truly expansive conversation with today’s inspiring guest.✌️

Pitney Farms in collaboration with Improv Spaces and Arts Numbers & Letters presents

Go Between
A Ritual for Listening to the Land

Saturday, June 6, 5pm performance
with opening prelude at 4pm

Open to the public
Location Pitney Farms, 223 West Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY

JILL SIFAH SIGMAN

What does the soil remember? In Go Between, Sigman creates visually powerful scrolls by dancing with soils significant to climate issues, colonial histories, and local narratives. This physical process leaves marks on large-scale papers that are simultaneously documentation of Sigman’s performance and mapmaking of the memory of the site. Sigman will create a new series of scrolls with soil from Pitney Meadows and bring her environmental-performative practice to a collective listening ritual for the land at the farm.

Audience members are invited to come early to connect with the land and enter the performance through an improvisatory prelude of music and sound.

Sigman is artist-in-resident at Pitney Farms and in collaboration with Improv Spaces and Arts Letter & Numbers with support by Saratoga Arts Community Regrant, Price Institute, Mellon Foundation, and the Rutgers University-Newark 2026 Chancellor’s Seed Grant and will be commencing the week of activities of the Global Performance + Sound Lab with her performance Go Between at Pitney Farms.

Last April 22nd the garden celebrated another Earth Day 🌱 thanks to the dedicated work of @kabkgreenoffice and the garden community.
Earth Day is an annual global event first held in 1970, to demonstrate support for environmental protection. This year’s theme was „Our Power, Our Planet,” emphasizing collective action, community resilience, and reclaiming the power to drive environmental progress, regardless of policy uncertainty.
We used the day to bring together the diverse community of KABK to participate in hands-on action contributing to the regeneration of the Garden. A 20m2 patch of stones and construction waste was cleared out around the honey locus tree in the far corner of the Garden. Thanks to @duurzaam_dh for funding the container and transport. Many thanks also to all the helpful hands who contributed to the digging!

We were delighted to welcome interdisciplinary artist and choreographer Jill Sifah Sigman @thinkdance who gave a first workshop on Performance and Soil, investigating what does the soil remember?

Throughout the day the collective student initiative platform CoHub provided food for the volunteers with waste fruits and vegetables from the Haagse Markt.

The stars also aligned to offer the garden a beautiful antique greenhouse, found in the center of The Hague by chance. It is a very welcome and beautiful addition to the ongoing research of growing and nurturing plants within an urban setting and educational institution.

We were happy to share the space with the IST Thematic Lab Art and Ecology student’s exhibition, showcasing works around ecology, food systems, (digital) garden spaces, composting, botany, and much more. The garden is incredibly grateful to all the participants, big and small, human and non-human, who came together to make this day possible. Let’s together continue to dream and act to move KABK towards a regenerative, caring, healthy, and diverse ecosystem.

Thank you everyone! 🥳
Last weekend we hosted the the third International The Hague Sound Art festival, which was a great success, both musically and in conveying its theme.

I would like to thank the artists, the audience, and the team at Het Nationale Theater/Zaal 3.
The artists for their dedication, surprising and high-quality sound and visual representations in conveying the theme.

The audience, which was more diverse than in previous editions, for their interest in the program and respect for the artists, not only by coming but also in their response to the work on display.
The Zaal 3 team for their exceptionally friendly hospitality and Het Nationale Theater for their financial support.

The Annual The Hague International Sound Art festivals aim to place the concept of Sound Art and other types of contemporary performance art in a broad context, thereby redefining it, as in this festival's Spoken Word section and how Activism and Performance can be connected in such a way that they reinforce each other.

The third festival more than succeeded in this, with purely artistic highlights from: Felicity Provan, Jill Sigman Thinkdance, Kristin Norderval, Leonie Roessler, Hessel Veldman, Nirantar Yakthumba, John Dikeman, Aleksandar Škorić, Andy Moor, Jodi Gilbert, BUG Radio, Sina Fard, Sun Mi Hong, John Edwards, Oscar Jan Hoogland, Peter van Bergen, Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, Frank Rosaly, and Fidan Aghayeva-Edler.

The 4th Annual The Hague International Soundart Festival will once again be produced in collaboration with Het Nationale Theater and will take place in Zaal 3 from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November 2026. More news will follow soon, but please mark these dates in your diary!
