🌿 Greener Schools, Healthier Kids 🌿

On 27 November, we joined the London Urban Forest Partnership - School Collective — a group bringing together local councils from across Greater London and local and national charities working to make school spaces greener and more climate-resilient.

Joana Cruz represented our Environmental Child Health Research Group (UCL), hearing about the inspiring work already happening to plant trees, transform playgrounds and connect children with nature.

We’re excited to explore partnerships that bring community action and scientific evidence together, helping to show how greener school environments support children’s wellbeing and health.

A great afternoon of collaboration and shared purpose.🌳💚

🌟 Access Week 2025 🌟

It was a joy and an honour to welcome a brilliant cohort of 120 Year 12 pupils to Pembroke in August for Access Week, our annual summer residential. 🎀

We would like to thank this year's pupils for their enthusiasm to engage so closely with the academic content, to ask questions to our tutors and lecturers, to join us for the Joseph Owen Formal Dinner, and to celebrate their collective achievements with the whole OxNet team on the final day of the residential. 🎖️

Our sincerest thanks go, too, to all the academics and support staff who made Access Week happen – we could not do it with you! 💐

We will be posting photos from the residential over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled...! 👀

Want to hear how one leader is helping young Black students open doors to opportunity?

💫 We’re pleased to share that Hope Oloye, Founder and Director of @thinkingblack_, will be joining us for our next At The Forefront session!

This is your chance to hear firsthand how Thinking Black is helping students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

🚀 Since 2017, their programmes have supported almost 2,000 young people, building skills in academic and creative writing, public speaking, and self-advocacy.

Hope will sit down with our CEO and Founder, @maryrosegunn, to talk about:
✨ The story behind Thinking Black
✨ The challenges of being a leader amid an increasingly difficult landscape for small charities and the solutions she’s found along the way
✨ What drives her commitment to amplifying young Black voices

Back in Feb, we exhibited our work @somersethouse as part of the Black Business Residency. Founding-Director, Alisha was placed on cohort 5 with a network of rising Black creatives & entrepreneurs.

Some of the work we’ve been cooking up with collaborators & partners for 2026 was also shown 👀💫👩🏿‍🍳✨

We hosted the panel, ‘Creative Futures: Designing The Next Chapter’ with:

- Hope Oloye, Founder @thinkingblack_
- Nate Agbetu, Founder @freeformworld
- Lauren Little, Founder @darkyellowdot

🎥: @betyfilms

Thanks to the BBR Team for the support and mentorship over the past year 🥳We may be quiet on the TL as we’re ramping things up behind the scenes. If you see us at Somerset House, don’t be shy, say hi! 👋🏿

This Black History Month we are shining the spotlight on charities and social enterprises uplifting young Black people in the UK through education and professional development.

Volunteering to support these organisations hashtag#BackedByTheFore means contributing to meaningful opportunities for young people in the Black community.

- Thinking Black empowers black students to realise their full potential and is developing a new virtual learning environment to reach many more students.
- Through training programmes, mentorship and career support, 20/20 Levels empower young black professionals to flourish in the workplace.
- Black Therapy Matters is an organisation addressing the shortage of registered Black and Ethnic Minority counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK.

Comment someone’s name who you think could share their expertise to scale up these organisations, via our Pro Bono Network!
