Mike Huckaby — THE DEEPER SIDE OF DETROIT

Mike Huckaby was much more than a DJ and producer. A key figure in Detroit house and techno, he was known for his deep musical knowledge, impeccable record selection and commitment to sharing that knowledge.

Through his productions, remixes, work at Record Time and mentoring, he left a lasting mark on Detroit and the global electronic music community.

Since his passing in 2020, his influence lives on. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite tracks — a small selection in recognition of his contribution to the music.

Before Carl Craig sent Falling Up into orbit, there was this lovely original cut. Theo Parrish @soundsignature ‘s Falling Up is slow, loose and beautifully off-centre. Much more understated than the famous remix, but that’s exactly why I like it. Released on @third_ear_recordings ‘s Detroit Beatdown (Volume One) compilation back in 2002.

@carlcraignet remix comes next :)
