One year on…

When we started, we really had no idea if it would work. We’d both wanted to do something like this in Aberdeen for years, but the timing had never quite felt right.

We’re both from Aberdeen, but spent time living in cities with much bigger coffee cultures. Coming back and building Haar here was always important to us and hopefully adding something to a coffee community that was already growing.

We’re grateful to the people who have backed us from the start and helped Haar become what it is now. We definitely wouldn’t be here without that support.

There’s still a long way to go and a lot we want to do. We’ve got some big plans for later this year and into next.

But before then, thank you.

My current top 5 work spots in Aberdeen☕📝

I'm very lucky to work from home day to day, but whenever I want a change of scenery, or just fancy a coffee while working remotely, these are my top picks in the city centre:

1. Filo Coffee House. Great if you need a friendly space and time to focus
2. Foodstory. My pick for a a quick coffee and a sweet treat, with plenty of seating
3. Grub. A relaxed atmosphere (and great matcha)
4. Books and Beans. Perfect for a cosy vibe and if you want a quick browse for books at the same time
5. Third Circle Coffee. Great coffee and a relaxed atmosphere

These 5 cafés all offer a spacious, welcoming vibe and you never feel pressured to leave or like you've overstayed your welcome.

That's one of the underrated perks of remote work: your office can be wherever the coffee's good :)

Buzzing to try the O1 from Orea. The Z1 has worn down very quickly so I wanted to see how the O1 did, and I also haven’t tried much flat bottom brewing.

I tried a 5 pour this morning and noticed quite a difference from the 3 pour in this video. Excited to explore more.

💫 A few highlights from the whirlwind that has been 6 weeks of school summer holidays (apparently that feeling of summer holidays being endless is a thing that stays in your childhood!).

Not included here (to keep it real) …

Building site life grinding on - we’re now week 10 of no kitchen. To say I’m pleased we’ve primed our kids to accept toast as a meal would be an understatement.

Plenty of viral illness for everyone

The work/childcare juggle that I know we’re all in together!

General refereeing duties that come with having 2 kids in a room together for more than 17 seconds.

If your little ones are back to/starting school this week I hope it all goes ok 🤍🤍

‘Where do you want to grab coffee from on your birthday Jen?’. @thirdcircle.coffee for an espresso tonic. No hesitation. Amazing as always.
