impACT! Hello, beautiful people! We are seven days into October 2026. Guess what happened 100 years ago today? A powerful baby girl was born who would impact the world in ways unimaginable. Happy birthday, Dr. Opal Lee, my friend, and the grandmother of Juneteenth. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Opal Lee. I left our first encounter with knowledge about Juneteenth and with a desire to know more about this incredible soul. I was blessed to receive an invitation to interview this remarkable woman in her home. I will always remember that special day. In Dr. Opal Lee’s case, I must capitalize the ACT, because her life is one of several actions taken to make our world better. As a teacher she touched many lives. As a mother she touched generations. As the grandmother of Juneteenth, she touched a nation. I’m asking myself three questions as I reflect on this 100-year-old feisty sister: What am I doing that really matters? Whose business is my “busy”ness advancing? Are lives better because of something I did, somewhere, somehow, some way? Dr. Opal Lee can answer all of these questions, and I can answer them for her. Her walks mattered. She advanced the thinking and actions of a nation. My life is better because I met her. Please help me wish Dr. Opal Lee a happy 100th birthday! I love this woman and am grateful for how she touched my life. 🙏🏾🎉❤️
