Na een korte zomerstilte zijn we terug! ☀️

Met deze film blikken we terug op de Review Day van Meesterverbinding 2026: een dag vol open gesprekken, eerlijke feedback en nieuwe verbindingen tussen 32 makers en experts uit de kunst- en designwereld.

Hoe benader je als kunstenaar een galerie? Welke kunstbeurzen passen bij jouw werk en positionering? En hoe bouw je aan een duurzame carrière als maker? Grote én praktische vragen kwamen aan bod.

Ook ging kunstenaar @eelcohilgersom in de gespreksbus met makers in gesprek over creëren, experimenteren, twijfelen en wat het betekent om maker te zijn.

Juist de uiteenlopende achtergronden, praktijken en perspectieven van de makers maakten deze dag bijzonder – niet alleen voor de makers zelf, maar ook voor de experts.

Nogmaals veel dank aan alle makers voor hun openheid en inspirerende werk, en aan alle experts voor het delen van jullie tijd, kennis en betrokkenheid. 🤍

Binnenkort maken we de 15 makers bekend die zijn geselecteerd voor de tentoonstelling van Meesterverbinding 2026! ✨

We have reached the end. DOOR Open Space is due to close, effective immediately.

At this point, it has proven impossible for us to find an affordable space where we could relocate. It’s an immense pity that Amsterdam is losing cultural spaces so rapidly.

That being said, this is not the end of DOOR. We will continue to produce events under DOOR Foundation @doorfoundation, even without a permanent physical location. We will keep you updated about future projects and the possibility of opening a new venue. Please follow @doorfoundation to stay connected with us.

From the very beginning, DOOR Open Space was meant to be temporary. What we never dared to imagine was that we would remain open for this long, or that such a powerful community would form around these walls. Your bodies filled the space to its limits countless times, leaving traces that will remain with us forever.

We hosted exhibitions, performances, concerts, theatre shows, dinners, catwalks, vintage markets, residencies and activist events, and through it all, this building became more than a venue. It became a meeting point, a shelter, a stage, a dance floor and a gathering ground.

And now, as this chapter comes to a close, we want to honour everything that happened here and everyone who made it possible.

We would like to thank Cod and Stadsdeel Amsterdam Noord for their openness in entrusting us with the building and for supporting our dream of creating a cultural hub in Amsterdam Noord.

To all of the artists, performers, musicians, curators, collectives, technicians, chefs, bar staff, volunteers and cultural workers who brought this space into being through their labour, imagination and generosity - thank you. DOOR Open Space only ever existed because of the people willing to fill it with risk, experimentation, beauty, noise, intimacy and life.

And finally, to everyone who walked through these doors over the years: THANK YOU for believing in us, for shaping this community alongside us, for engaging with art with us, for dancing with us, and for sharing moments of joy, tenderness, intensity, connection, and now, grief.

We hope our paths will cross again.

Sana and I spent our day at Art Island this weekend (happening May 22–24) and we loved it so much!! The fair takes place on Forteiland in IJmuiden, which you can reach by a 10-minute boat ride about 30 minutes outside of Amsterdam 🏝️🫶

This venue felt so surreal to walk through because of the old maze-like architecture. We got lost so many times but that was also what made each gallery feel like a little discovery.

This year is the fifth edition of @artislandamsterdam and it brings together around 30 galleries alongside artists from @thisartfair , ultimately presenting a huge mix of work to explore!

So if you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, we really recommend checking it out! ❤️

Are you up for a unique art experience? This weekend you have the opportunity to visit it truly inspiring and fascinating art fair called @artislandamsterdam I will present for the first time with a group of artist represented by @thisartfair the environment of the fortress is a very fascinating place to showcase my porcelain artworks created in Japan and other works from my recent art project ‘We are all here’ The works I will show are about taking up space and they are fragile and sensitive,, and show a new aesthetic direction that my work has taken recently.
