Art Island opens tomorrow! The weather promises to be ideal for a trip to the coast, a short boat ride, a stroll on the island, and a cooling down inside the fort filled with amazing artworks. We present 17 talented artists in our very own section of the fair, but there's so much more: nearly thirty leading galleries from across the country are showcasing their best work. All of this happens inside the adventurous Forteiland IJmuiden, where you won't find any standard white booths. Rather, the art becomes part of the historic location, with its narrow corridors and intimate vaulted chambers. @artislandamsterdam Friday 22 (Opening), Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 May, Forteiland IJmuiden. Choose a boat departure time and buy your tickets in advance at art-island.nl. taken in Forteiland IJmuiden by @thisartfair

This weekend at Art Island, you can discover these brand new artworks that were created especially for the art fair! Hugo Rocci adds the work 'Flan' to his series about all kinds of things found in the kitchen, drawing attention to the beauty of everyday objects. Hannah Meijer is bringing newly created additions to her project 'Ode to the Bark Beetle'. These are inspired by the tunnels that the bark beetle digs, not unlike the tunnels of the Forteiland. Clementine Oomes created a new addition to the project 'Bare Space'. Her references to the internment camps where her mother was held during WWII align seamlessly with the history of the location. Find these and countless more artworks in the This Art Fair presentation at @artislandamsterdam on Forteiland IJmuiden, Friday 22 until Sunday 22 May. This weekend at Art Island, you can discover these brand new artworks that were created especially for the art fair! In ‘Female Hands’, Nynke Deinema zooms in on women’s hands appearing in classical paintings, drawing attention to long-undervalued female artists. Henk Schut creates new sound pieces about Forteiland, including 'Listen to the Earth and it will speak', in which he brings together all kinds of data about the island in real time. Aalt van de Glind projects intimate photos of his sleeping beloved in a dark room of the fort, creating a striking contrast between the rough interior and the soft images. Find these and countless more artworks in the This Art Fair presentation at @artislandamsterdam on Forteiland IJmuiden, Friday 22 until Sunday 22 May. This is Iskra – and we are bringing her to Art Island! Iskra Vukšić investigates how politics and economics shape landscapes, from mass tourism on the Adriatic coast to militarisation in the Netherlands. At Art Island, she presents works that perfectly align with the location’s military history. A series of prints, metal works and a miniature theatre reimagine NATO terrain symbols, morse code and camouflage patterns. They examine how nature is transformed into “terrain” and absorbed into political narratives. @artislandamsterdam takes place this weekend! Take the boat to Forteiland IJmuiden on 22, 23 or 24 May and discover new work by 17 amazing artists in the special This Art Fair presentation. This is Stijn - and we are bringing him to Art Island! Stijn Elshuis explores how people relate to history. Is there one story to tell, or is it always subjective? Through his collages and assemblages, he demonstrates that the idea of history is complex and often coloured by our Western perspective. He incorporates insights from history, anthropology, and philosophy into work that broadens our view of the present day. @artislandamsterdam takes places at Forteiland IJmuiden, 22-24 May 2026. As Special Guests, This Art Fair presents 17 artists in its own section of the art fair. Get your tickets for @artislandamsterdam at art-island.nl taken in Forteiland IJmuiden by @thisartfair
