That’s a wrap @theotherartfair 💐✨
What an exciting weekend of meeting beautiful people from all over the globe and showcasing my artwork at my first 4 day art fair. I’m definitely feeling inspired by the incredible artist and curators I got to meet at both @theotherartfair and @atlartfair 💐💐💐

I can’t wait to travel back home to work on new artwork with all this new inspiration in mind.✨
Thank you all for coming out and supporting my artwork!

Next up @blackgirlartshow 📍CHICAGO 💐💐💐

I bought this DRESS years ago. And it felt kinda fancy so it never made it out. But fukk that. I'm growing and the dress is not, so I styled it as a skirt at my event at the studiio today. Because how was I gonna let THIS moment pass? Many compliments. Must wear it again soon.

Vest: vintage. Belt: also vintage. Brooch: vintage.

Art by me @thisbysym, and available.

Opening night of Duets- A Collab Exhibition at @avondaleartsalliance. Me & my daughter painted this piece titled “Water Sprite.” This is her first time showing work in a gallery space at 8 years old 😊🎨✨
.
This painting is a love letter to female gamers. Josie painted the Water Sprite from Fortnite and I painted a Sonic the Hedgehog scene from my Sega days. Loved the opportunity to create something new together. 🌸🌹🎮

Y'all! I have a show opening this weekend and I'm not going to make it. Who's gonna go take pictures for me? #Please

Duets opens on Saturday 9.16 @avondaleartsalliance featuring works created by 2 artists. I worked with @studiolayand to create "Taking My Talents to Paris." Lay'Na is a textile artist and she crocheted this 2 piece situation for a paper doll made by me (because I been all paper doll all the time since I moved into the studio). The title is a nod to LeBron (of course) but mostly all the iconic Black performers (and artists) who took their talents to Paris to escape the woes of American life.

Wanna buy our piece? The online link is up in the @avondaleartsalliance bio.

The time is near...

@thisbysym and I have teamed up together. We are introducing Bring Your Own Barbie. You bring the doll and we'll supply the goods. This is a styling event. There will be a surprise for the best styled doll. We look forward to seeing you guys. If you have any question, feel free to contact either of us.

This event is for ALL who want to attend 🩷

When I was in middle school, my language arts teacher submitted my poem from a creative writing prompt for a poetry competition. I was selected to perform 😬

I was a mess, but I pushed through and ultimately won the competition. I was so shocked to see people in the audience encouraging me to keep going with their smiles, snapping fingers, “alright nah’s” and “you better say that’s!”
They heard me. They liked what I had to say. My words made an impression. That was the fuel to motivate me to use my words as motivation to #keeponkeepinon
When I was disappointed, I wrote.
When I was hurt, I wrote.
When I was afraid. Homeless. Confused. Angry. Ravenous.
I wrote.

From childhood to adulthood, my pen became my weapon. Though it wasn’t until undergrad that I was moved to share my deepest thoughts with an audience again.

Fall 2004. Open Mic Night at West Georgia. “Girrrrrl we ain’t know you be writing like that!”

But I slipped back into the shadows. Writing in my diaries, scrap pieces of paper, my Blackberry and eventually the notes on my phone.

It wasn’t until earlier this year, that I came out of the shadows to share my writing again. I partnered with my good sis, @thisbysym to host an open mic.

This time, I wrote a continuation of that poem from 8th grade, City Girl. Somewhere along the way, I realized that she is me and I am her. And grown me had a lot to say to that scared little girl. She welcomed me with open arms and I held her & let her know that we’re aight. We made it.
In spite of it all, we kept going.

Hold your little person’s hand and invite them out to play with @ThisbySym and I next week. I’m interested in seeing what y’all have to share.

I love you, for real
