Heartfelt thanks to High Plains International Book Awards for honoring NO MAN’S LAND as the 2026 winner in the Memoir category. What a wonderful weekend in Billings. You housed us, you fed us, you brought authors and readers together in community — all in celebration of the written word. My heart is FULL. Special thanks to the small army of volunteers who made this happen, and deep appreciation to @billingslibrary, @billingsplfoundation, @msubillings , and Julie and her incredible team at @thishouseofbooks. I’m a fan for life. THANK YOU!

Cue the drumroll, open the envelope… And the award goes to ‘A Home for Steamboat’! 🥁✉️

We are honored to win 2026 High Plains Book Award for Children’s Picture Book! ✨ What a great day of the panels at the Billings Library (our topic was Imagery), wonderful people including Librarians, This House of Books (Julie is an amazing speaker), and meeting other authors and book lovers.

Shout out to the High Plains Book Award committee for covering our stay, feeding us, and being the best people to connect with. Also, to MSU-Billings for hosting & supporting this event. The day was memorable.

Some days really do read like a picture book. This was one of them. 🏆

Tomorrow 6-7pm at This House of Books, Downtown Billings. Be there! Hear about Heidi’s personal journey cycling across the country! She brings us insight into her experience learning more about herself, and those around her, as she takes on this personal challenge. We hope to see you there tomorrow!

We will be reading “Last Night At The Telegraph Club” by Malinda Lo, a beautifully written coming of age story set in 1950 San Francisco, exploring identity, family, belonging, and the courage it takes to find your voice.

And because Banned Books Week is about more than just books, we will also talk about why books are being challenged and banned, why access to literature matters, and what all of us can do to support freedom of expression or local libraries and the people who keep our communities reading.

October 8th will be our kick off!
We’ll kick things off with a conversation about Banned Books Week, book challenges, intellectual freedom, and how you can support literature in your local library.

We encourage you to support your local bookseller or library and pick up a copy prior to the kickoff. If you need a Book Scholarship, we have a limited number available at partner booksellers in Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Whitefish, & Helena.

We can also get you a copy sent if you don’t live in those areas.

Read at your own pace throughout the month.

Book Club Discussion - October 29th
We’ll come back together to talk about the book, discuss what stood out, what challenged us, and what connections we see in the world around us. We will also announce prize winners and introduce resources for anyone who wants to keep the momentum going by starting their own radical reading book club with friends, co-workers, neighbors or community members.

You don’t need to be a serious book person or reader, you don’t need to have all the answers and you certainly don’t need to read a book a month forever. Just pick up a book and join us!
