Hi friends! Happy sunday with a #septemberstack

I feel like everyone has been on their monthly game this month, so thanks to everyone for the tags.

How has September been for you so far? Reading or life was?

Reading: I'm still in a Dead Beat hangover. Nothing since has sparked the spark.

Watching: Football on the weekends. Supernatural or New Girl during the week, depending on my mood. Both are rewatches.

Listening: Macklemore and the new In This Moment cd

Life is... fine? Work is busy. It's my husband's 40th this week, so this weekend and next are birthday things. I also went to a BK Borison signing last friday, and omg, she was hilarious and personable.

Anyone have anything fun coming up?

I have been wanting to try this trend because WHO AM I TO GIVE UP AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT BOOKS I LOVE 💁‍♀️. Hi friends! Happy #favoritefriday Now that I've convinced a bunch of you to give Lions of Al-Rassan a chance, I'm back with another Guy Gavriel Kay book; A Brightness Long Ago.

Yes, yes, the cover is crap but it's honestly a wonderful historical fantasy set amongst Italian city states. It follows Danio Cerra looking back at his youth, how one moment can change everything, and how people move in and out of our lives. For Danio, that person is Adria Ripoli, a woman choosing danger and freedom over comforts, but there's also a bunch of other delightful side characters.

📚 We like to believe, or pretend, we know what we are doing in our lives. It can be a lie. Winds blow, waves carry us, rain drenches a man caught in the open at night, lightning shatters the sky and sometimes his heart, thunder crashes into him bringing the awareness he will die. We stand up, as best we can under that. We move forward as best we can, hoping for light, kindness, mercy, for ourselves and those we love.

📚 The sailors say the rain misses the cloud even as it falls through light or dark into the sea. I miss her like that as I fall through my life, through time, the chaos of our time. I dream she is alive even now, but there is nothing to give weight or value to that, it is only me, and what I want to be true. It is only longing. We can want things so much sometimes. It is the way we are.

📚 Perhaps in the darkest times all we can do is refuse to be part of the darkness.

📚 She’d been afraid, preparing herself, after the summons came to the farmhouse—but fear was something you mastered, not a thing that defined you.

📚 Perhaps as often as we dream of things we wish might come to be, we dream of what we wish had been otherwise. We are carried forward through time, but our minds take us back.
