Februllage2026- Day 8: Concrete

In The Echo of Time Project, each capsule gathers women whose presence refuses erasure.

For this one, my muse was @akudzweelsiechiwa. I worked with a photograph of her sculpted face by her husband, artist Parker Donaldson. She wove her own hair, embodying a powerful image.

Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa is a Zimbabwean artist whose practice centers on identity, ancestral memory and the spiritual architecture of womanhood.

Speaking about her artistic process, she wrote:

“I wanted to represent the strong women I come from, the warrior queens that history, digitization, and white delusion erased. To summarise, my work is to wake up Black women and remind them that we are the true keepers of this garden, that we are God’s favorites, and that our ancestors are powerful beings. If we remember who we are, we can reclaim this world for the betterment of all that lives.”

This capsule is a gesture of recognition, a small vessel carrying strength, ancestry and voice across time.

Heartfelt thanks to @akudzweelsiechiwa and @thisisparkerdonaldson for joining me in this act of remembrance.

#ArtistsOfPittsburgh: Meet Parker Donaldson, a Pittsburgh-based conceptual artist, sculptor, and musician.

Educated as a portrait sculptor, Parker’s practice evolved to include physical and multi-sensory conceptual media installations. His body of work includes a series of hand-formed busts of individuals who Parker met while visiting a local senior living facility.

A through line in Parker’s conceptual work is his exploration of ideas rooted in the social and cultural past, juxtaposed in context to the present moment. Parker is curious about how our access and ability to re-experience moments from the past affects our sense of temporality and whether nostalgia creates dislocation within time.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Parker (@thisisparkerdonaldson) moved to South Africa and obtained his BFA in sculpture from the University of Cape Town in 2020. While attending the University of Cape Town, Parker also met his wife, fellow artist Akudzwe Elsie Chiwa. Parker has also spent time living and working in Atlanta and Nashville.

Photo dump.
And a long reflection.
My birthday months are over and I look forward to the possibilities of being a 33 year old human.
These years have been transitional . This year has been difficult and yet so full of closure, self acceptance, love, empathy and grace for myself.
I am grateful to be me and to be surrounded by grace and compassion. It’s been a difficult birthday, being so far away from those that knew me before I was me, moving homes and neighbourhoods, finding new normals and releasing old ones.
It’s been hard setting boundaries with toxic spaces, people and ideation. It’s been hard being human, and being seen as a human worthy of grace and compassion.
I have learnt to be content with where I am and who I am. I trust the story that is my life to continue to lead me to become the person I am and have always been.
I am content with my strangeness in this strange land surround by strange customs and social expectations. I will always be a circle in a square world .
I will always be water, I will flow as I am lead and as I choose.
Growing up , growing is about understanding that the world exists even without you in it and we are all voyagers passing through the sea of time, learning, loving , learning living, loving and leaving. I am grateful for the growth, as I shed my 3rd skin, I contemplate on what the future holds and I look forward to living this 33rd year as my self, in all my fullness and love.
I am grateful for you that see me and hold space for me. May we continue to lean into each other and lean into love.
Also, thank you guys for holding me .
