Happy International Women’s Mountain Bike Day!👯‍♀️🤩

To all of the incredible humans and lady shredders I’ve met over the years who have been a part of my journey on two wheels: thank you.

Thank you for being a part of my life in whatever capacity it’s been. Not a single lesson or moment has ever been taken for granted. 💜

Here’s to many more miles spent celebrating one another! 🫶

It’s my one year at GU! Who knew that when I got hired in Jan 2020 as an “office barista” at that* coffee tech company on 4th street with a bunch of GU ex-pats it would eventually turn into me walking my happy ass a few blocks down the street just 5 years later.

I remember asking my then boss (at coffee company), who is also my now boss (at GU), if she could ever go back to one place she worked before, where it would be and why? “GU, in a heartbeat, because Love was a core value and you could feel it.” I told her she was crazy, but that if she ever ended up back there and needed a short, but mighty switchblade of a transmasc - to hit me up. I can’t believe we made the dream come true.

I don’t dream of labor, but working at GU over the last year has felt like coming into myself, coming into my career, connecting in my communities, and most of all, coming home. When I started at GU, I felt like a new world opened up to me, but I also felt like I’d been here forever. My life absolutely exploded this year, I traveled more than ever, flew to Colorado for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd time in my life, met so many amazing humans, and got to connect all eras of my life to GU! It took me a year to fully drink the GU-laid, I just ran my first ever race and shaved 2:20 off my 5k time in less than a year!

I can’t begin to imagine how next year’s chapter as a servant of the GU People will measure up against an explosive and catapulting year, but I’m so stoked to see you all out there, share hugs and laughs, and find out together🫶.

If you have a non-profit, run club, or community would would benefit from a GU Gives product donation, hit me up🙂‍↕️.

It’s National Girls & Women’s in Sports Day and I’ve been thinking about how complicated sports can get for girls.

Whether that’s being pushed too hard for too long, underfueling, or simply quitting because it’s not cool anymore or they never had access in the first place

I stopped playing sports around 14 and I just found out thats when most girls do. Nothing dramatic. I just decided I didnt want to do any sports anymore (and I did all of them) and didnt really think about it again. I did continue dancing and competitive cheerleading but that was because I wanted a certain vibe, not because I loved it.

And I think a lot of girls have some version of that story. That age is when sport can stop feeling simple and start feeling like pressure, comparison, body image, and the “right way to be a girl”.

Years later, I found my way back to sport, and I’m so grateful I did. Not because I’m chasing perfection, but because it taught me (again) how good it feels to feel strong, in community and working hard at something.

My niece is really into mountain biking right now, and it’s the most wholesome thing. She idolizes the pros in the purest way and I just really hope she gets to keep that kind of joy and confidence without outside pressure turning it into something else.

And I want all girls to hear this early:
Fuel properly. Eat enough. Get strong. Take up space.
You’re not “too much” for having a powerful body.
She’s lucky to have athletes like Lauren Stevens guiding her, too, showing what long-term love for sport can look like.

If you want to support girls in sport today:

☼ @girlsontheruninternational
☼ @womenssportsfoundation

Would love to hear: did you play sports growing up? Did you stop? Did you come back?

shoutout to @feisty_media for the inspo!
