I’ve been looking out for fun material in my fave zero waste/reuse shops recently, and this scrap of blue silk(?) was the perfect background for @threadhandedjill whale shark pattern I bought from Etsy a while ago.

Well, the colour is perfect. Turns out this material REALLY doesn’t like being yanked taut inside an embroidery hoop, and you can probably spot some of the runs I caused 😬 I tried to pull it taut gently, but had to admit defeat and just sew on not very taut fabric in the end..!

Despite all the challenges, I absolutely love how it’s come out! The white thread really shines against the dark material.

I wanted to embroider a starry sky around the whale similar to the one that came with the original pattern. But after nearly ruining the material multiple times… I might just paint it on 😂

It’s Day 2 of the virtual book tour, and today’s GIVEAWAY host is Alejandra Corona (@threadhandedjill)! I am such a fan of her haunting, nature-inspired art, and am so happy to have her with us today! Alejandra is a multi-talented artist, using embroidery, crochet, clay, and bread to express herself in a way that blends edge with elegance. Each piece—from her meticulously beaded spiderwebs to her whimsical stumpwork insects—is delicate, eerie, and subtly captivating.

If you’re drawn to art that leans into the dark while still holding onto a quiet kind of beauty, her work is something special.

Be sure to check out @threadhandedjill today to see details of how to enter the giveaway!

Merci infiniment, @katiewoodscreative

happy new year & long time no see (as usual)
I may not have been drawing much as of late buutttt I have been sculpting! Beetle is modeled after a step by step video on @threadhandedjill ‘s page🪲
I likely still won’t be posting consistently but I will be refocusing on filling my sketchbook this year, apparently I started this current one last January and have barely made a dent, so it’s time to lock in🤞
and a rare face reveal of me and my son to start off the new year, cheers

My attempt at a @threadhandedjill bee butt!

@threadhandedjill very kindly shared a tutorial on how to make these cuties and I knew I had to create one for the stump work, hand embroidered wreath!

(I had asked permission from them to make one of the hand embroidered 3D bees and add it to my project! Was thrilled when they said yes! Thank you ❤️)

My sister and I have been dying to make our own little spider web witch hats since we first laid eyes on the OG @threadhandedjill Although mine doesn’t even remotely compare to the amazing artistic abilities of @threadhandedjill , I’m still pretty giddy with how it turned out.
