4 — FOUR Here are our 4 incredible artists (well… technically 5 😉) who will be part of the very first FOUR. We’re so excited to have these brilliant creative minds with us as they each take on the challenge of creating a brand new work in just 4 days. Week 1: @threadingframes (Tyler & Fale) Week 2: @_conjah (Ooshcon) Week 3: Alisdair Macindoe Week 4: @leeserle (Lee Serle) Each choreographer will have 4 days to create, 1 day to tech, and then present 1 incredible performance. Want to be part of one of these works… or maybe all four? Submit your application before 31 July. Once applications close, each choreographer will select the dancers they’d like to work with. We created FOUR to give dancers the opportunity to collaborate with choreographers they may never have had the chance to work with before. It’s also a space for choreographers to challenge themselves by creating under a tight timeframe, and for our community to experience and be part of more new, independent dance work. Four - Week 1 Choreographer - Tyler and Fale Fale and Tyler are dance artists and makers who collaborate through Threading Frames, a collective working at the intersection of dance, theatre, film and storytelling. Their practice is grounded in an exploration of the human condition, creating immersive worlds where dance can exist beyond conventional rules of time and space. They are curious about the continual negotiation of who we are and who we are becoming, exploring how thoughts, memories, desires, fears, relationships, and environments continually shape and reveal different facets of our identity. Their work is deeply relational, shaped by the people in the room, the conversations shared and the trust created over time.  Tyler has collaborated with artists and companies including Luke Murphy (Attic Projects), Michael Keegan-Dolan (Teaċ Daṁsa), Marina Abramović, Ta’alili, Footnote New Zealand Dance, and New Zealand Dance Company. Fale’s background in breaking, krump, and contemporary dance has led him to collaborate with companies such as Ta’alili, Chunky Move, Footnote New Zealand Dance, and New Zealand Dance Company. They are the recipients of the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Springboard Award and their work has been presented at festivals and venues including Cinedans FEST, Auckland Arts Festival, Tempo Dance Festival, Pacific Dance Festival, Dancehouse, Schrit_tmacher Festival, and Cineverse International Film Festival. Asia TOPA's triennial of Asia-Pacific performing arts might only happen every three years, but the festival starts long before opening night. We work year-round with artists, through residencies, partnerships and artist labs – like this one. The team recently connected with a handful of artists from the Asia-Pacific at Arts House in North Melbourne, to workshop, talk shop and play. “We really hope the artists you’re meeting here at the lab are the artists you’ll see at Asia TOPA 2028,” says Asia TOPA Creative Director Jeff Khan. “This is the beginning of that journey.” For this first Artist Lab of 2026, Asia TOPA partnered with the Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM) and Arts House, bringing together four groups of artists from Southeast Asia, Australia and the Pacific and offering them something rare: time, space and the freedom to experiment. Here's a peek at what went down. —— Thank you to all Asia TOPA x BIPAM Artist Lab Participants: CONJAH, Fausto Brusamolino, Jarunun Phantachat, Pathipon (Miss Oat), Prom Vorleak, Ta'alili, Threading Frames, Victoria Hunt and Wichaya Artamat. The Asia TOPA x BIPAM Artist Lab has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
