D8 Artist Spotlight: @abhainnwheeler 🎨

For our latest D8 Artist Spotlight, we’re introducing ceramic artist Abhainn Wheeler, whose work takes inspiration from Ireland’s wild landscapes, ancient sites and folklore⛰️

Originally from Wicklow, Abhainn has spent the past year developing her practice in Dublin 8 through the Clay City Graduate Residency at @throwingshapes___, a programme created with Staycity to support ceramic artists🏺

Her work explores our connection to the land, memory and ritual, using organic forms, clay and layered glazes inspired by the stones and landscapes around us☺️

Her recent exhibition, Alltar – Otherworld, draws on passage tombs and stone circles, exploring ideas of other worlds, ancient beliefs and the stories we leave behind🪨

Head over to our website to read the full interview with Abhainn, learn more about her work and find out what inspires her creative practice💙 Link in bio🔗

Follow @abhainnwheeler to see more of her work.

visited @throwingshapes___ pottery studio for the first time this weekend for their autumn ceramics market that was filled with 34 potters from around the country.

one of the things I’ve learned since moving to ireland is that there is no shortage of talent or creativity on this island.

we’re living in a moment of ai and automation and efficiency, so it was nice to be surrounded by creatives who really delight in the process.

some of the potters included:
@hardlyceramic
@theparadiseassociation_ (an gee chan)
@studio.beag
@tierney_haines
@its.stei
@mandy.bountiful
help me track down the first two!

+ beautiful florals from @shopthegarden and treats from @fable.bakery

💖 Beyond happy for my first market ever! Thank you all for visiting, for adopting all the little guys and giving my pieces a new home.

This day was incredibly special. Thank you all for the lovely chats, for the joy and the excitement, and @throwingshapes___ for making it happen 🫶

A special thanks to my wonderful sister for being my rock during that day, to my mum and dad for their support and to my absolutely brilliant friends for being here and showering me with your love 🥰

I will be high and floating for a few weeks now 🎈

This week: the hot school meals scheme is up for improvement, it’s a big weekend for tableware, the wine calendar is filling up fast, and there’s a new smashburger on the scene (we’re not mad). Have a flick through.
