Meet Teri 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

@teruri.yamawaki spent 3 months with us this summer as part of our Clay City Residency program. Guru Guru Meguru was her STUNNING solo exhibition in Dublin at the end of her residency.

Teri is an immensely talented Japanese maker and we loved having her at Throwing Shapes. We have been so inspired by watching her make and develop this incredible body of work. We also just loved her sense of humour and silliness which had her fit right in from day dot.

As all of our staff said “When I grow up I want to be @teruri.yamawaki “ 💕💕

€5,672 RAISED FOR THE BRIDGE PROJECT! ❤️

We are absolutely delighted to announce that together we raised an incredible €5,672 for The Bridge Project at our Culture Night Seconds Market! A massive thank you to everyone who came along, bought a pot, donated, or helped make the evening such a success.

A special thank you to all of our wonderful makers who generously donated their ceramics, and to our brilliant of staff and volunteers who helped bring it all together. The Bridge Project does incredible work supporting those who may have experience of the criminal justice system and/or a history of drug addiction to realise their potential, reintegrate and attain employment.

Meet Mahima! ✨

@mahima.s.ceramics has been teaching at Throwing Shapes since 2024, and her Friday morning classes always bring such a lovely energy to the studio. Known for playing smooth jazz while her students work, Mahima creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that makes Friday mornings feel extra special.

An incredibly talented maker, Mahima creates some of the finest porcelain wares being made in Ireland today. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her teaching, along with a calm, thoughtful and encouraging approach that makes her such a wonderful mentor.

If you’ve been lucky enough to learn from Mahima over the past two years, we’re sure you’ll agree that her warmth, patience and generosity make the journey into clay all the more enjoyable.

Mahima’s classes are fully booked for the rest of the year, but our next round of classes will be released on 4th November!

In the meantime, if you’re hoping to get your hands into some clay before the year is out, head to throwingshapes.ie/classes to snap up one of the last remaining spots. 💛

Applications for our next Clay City Residency at Throwing Shapes are closing this Monday.

Our residency programme is designed to give ceramic artists something incredibly valuable: time, space, accommodation and access to a fully equipped working studio to develop their practice.

The next residency will run for three months from January 2027, giving the selected artist the opportunity to experiment, research, make new work and become part of the Throwing Shapes studio community here in Dublin.

If you’ve been thinking about applying, this is your reminder not to leave it sitting in the drafts.

We are just back from a very special weekend in The Burren hosting 20 people for a ceramic retreat. What a beautiful time it was.

We had wood, salt and barrel firings, yoga, céilí dancing, tool making, wild clay workshops, saunas, a trip to the matchmaking festival in Lisdoonvarna, loads of laughs and great food.

A huge thank you to all the hands that worked to pull this off. Until next time ❤️

This Thursday, October 1st, join us for Allter- Otherworld, an exhibition by @abhainnwheeler .

This exhibition marks the end of Abhainn’s Clay City year-long residency at our studio. It has been a joy to host Abhainn and we can’t wait to see this body of work which she has been developing over the last 12months.
