Pacific Crest Trail (PCT): DAY 173 ••••• 10.02.26 (mile 2,615)

Terminus day 🏁🏁🏁

Mountains make their own weather. We thought we’d get a bluebird day, but Washington decided otherwise.

As some of these long journeys do, you know you’re close to the end, but never really sure where that last bend is, or what the approach actually looks like. I turned a corner & there it was. Non-descript. Just another part of a place outside. But this time, I was greeted by my friends, “Snax” & “Rock ‘n Roll”, clapping & cheering as me & another hiker (Kelly) finished up those final feet.

I booped the monument & the Canadian border. That was that.

Emotions are different for every trail. For every finish line. I never wanted to hike this trail to mark it off of some arbitrary list. I wanted to see something new. I wanted to have those “wowie” moments, as I call them, when I turn a corner & have my breath taken away.

Some days were shit & what I’m assuming is a stress fracture, woke me up in the middle of the night, several times each night for months, & had me limping for well over 1,000 miles of this trail (the equivalent of doing the Pacific Northwest, Florida, or Mountains to Sea Trails, with a flat tire).

There was not a single moment that I wanted to quit and I’m glad I didn’t have to.

I feel grateful to have been able to successfully walk this 2 foot wide ribbon of dirt from Mexico 🇲🇽 to Canada 🇨🇦 & to, entirely on accident, finish on the PCT’s birthday of when it was designated a national scenic trail 🎉🎂🥳🎈🎊

I feel lucky to have met such a wonderful array of kind people & am ending this adventure a little softer & a little gentler (thank you so much “Snax” & “Rock ‘n Roll” for being such amazing examples of genuinely sweet human beings; hiking with you both has really meant a lot to me, but you both already knew that).

This journey is now finished, but I’ll have these moments & this experience with me for the rest of my life.

I don’t know what’s next. That’s for future me to figure out. For now, I’ll sit with this joy.

It’s really hard to sum up what happened over the last 5 months. In some ways… a whole lot of nothing. In other ways, absolutely everything. #pacificcresttrail #thruhike #hikertrash
