2025 was a big year for Edmonton! ✨

From the opening of O-Day’min Park to being named a ‘Top City to Visit’ by Lonely Planet, and a municipal election that reflected community voices across the city, there was a lot to celebrate!

We’re bringing that same energy into 2026. Here’s what the Mayor and City Councillors are looking forward to in the year ahead. 🥳

What are you most excited about?

And as our city grows, so does the demand for accessible sport, recreation and active living opportunities.

That’s why I was proud to attend the grand opening of the new @iqtpc_yeg

Previously this space used housed 6 outdoor tennis courts, which were built and owned by the city.

The new facility is covered under a dome and features six tennis and seven pickleball courts allowing for year-round use and increased capacity.

City Council is proud to have supported this project alongside the Government of Alberta, @tenniscanada and Rogers Communications.

We are equally proud that this space is now operated by a non-profit that is rooted in community, focused on access and committed to keeping sport welcoming and inclusive.

Thanks to Councillor @thuforyeg for being a formidable pickleball opponent! We are definitely going to have to do this again for a re-match!

A moment for our speakers at Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau‘s Where We Came From (and where we go from here) art, food and reflection event. 🙏🏻

We are so grateful to our speakers for sharing their stories, their Vietnamese-Edmonton experiences, and their family history and lessons.

We are so grateful to community members who listened and were deeply moved by what they heard.

We are so grateful to the current @cityofedmonton council and mayor for attending and being part of the launch of our new non-profit, recognizing our efforts to preserve Vietnamese-Edmonton heritage and culture, increase Vietnamese representation and help shape the future of Vietnamese-Canadian identity.

We are thrilled to have looked back on Where We Came From (and continue to), as well as look ahead to where we go from here. 🧡

Thank you.

Today we celebrated a major step forward for housing in Edmonton.

With Minister Jason Nixon and our City partners, we marked the development of 10 surplus school sites- a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create 1,300 new homes, including more than 900 affordable units for families who need them most.

Thank you to the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations, Chiniki First Nation, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Bendera Housing, Vivid Homes, and WIN House for leading these projects.

These projects aren’t just building homes, they’re building stronger, more inclusive neighbourhoods.

As Edmonton grows, collaboration across all partners and orders of government is how we ensure people can find the housing they need in the communities they love.
