POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We always love a good bookshop road trip, and yesterday a few of us from the @inpressbooks and @poetrybooksociety team headed to Sheffield to show some love for our friends @andotherpics as they celebrated their 15th anniversary!

And there was plenty to celebrate. A great evening at the Millennium Gallery with @offtheshelffestival, featuring readings from @tice.cin, @brambrella, @karishmaadj and @asphaltmenagerie.

Of course, while we were in Sheffield, it would have been rude not to pop into see some booksellers and say hello. A big thanks to Sarah @junobookssheff and Alex @labiblioteka for having us along and taking the time for a good catch-up.

A lovely day spent celebrating brilliant books, bookshops and the people who make it all happen. Great to see @stefantoblerbooknerd, @hojiggs, @gmperry, and @translationbyruth.

Swipe across for a little look at our flying visit around Sheffield and some highlights from the night!

A little road trip to Sheffield yesterday as we joined our friends at @andotherpics to celebrate their 15th anniversary!

Hosted at the Millennium Gallery in collaboration with @offtheshelffestival, it was an evening celebrating fifteen years of independent publishing and bringing some of the very best writing from around the world to readers.

And what a year to celebrate! Not only were And Other Stories named Small Press of the Year at the British Book Awards, but they also made history as the first publisher to win the International @thebookerprizes with two consecutive books.

The night brought together authors, translators, publishers and friends, with readings from @tice.cin, @brambrella, @karishmaadj and @asphaltmenagerie, and words from @stefantoblerbooknerd and @taratobler.

Music from Tice Cin. Books from @labiblioteka.

A real pleasure for the Inpress team to be part of the celebrations and to raise a glass to fifteen brilliant years of And Other Stories. Here’s to many more!

Happy Publication Day to the icon Mandisa Apena 🎉💕

THE WORLD’S DARLING is out now. Thanks to everyone who’s helped usher this beautiful book into the world, and thanks @trashhhash for trusting us with your work.

📸 #2: @allie.barbs

‘the world’s darling is a full moon cycle through mandisa apena’s inner sanctum. a pastoral moment-place. omens disguised as humans; desire and hopeless lust roam without leash; dream portals unfurl in the corner of childhood bedrooms. what is left at the end of nature’s kind tantrum? a sophomore pamphlet from a poet whose approach is full of conviction, urgency and the strange sap of living — sprung from south london but very much to a place beyond, surreal in its vault out of all terrain.’ @tice.cin

‘Mandisa is one of my favourite writers ever. This pamphlet has helped me on my own journey towards healing, helped me understand the beauty and power of words, the complexities of womanhood, the pain and joy of existing. It reminds me what it means to be human, to feel, to cry, to laugh and then to cry again. Yes, the world is a cruel place, but mandisa makes it all look and feel so beautiful.’ @lolayounggg

‘Poems should be like people. Each of these poems is like a best friend I just made; each evolves in my hands like a puppy that grows with each bark. Like a barista who invites me to their birthday party. A chatty stranger on a night bus asks if you wanna come in for a cup of tea. I’m honoured that each poem trusts me with its organic self with so soon. Even before fully understanding what they’re saying, they show me vulnerability and alchemy. The experiment of ourselves is not done.’ @parkinsbrown

‘mandisa apena’s poems crackle with mischief and menace, tenderness and rage where dreams bruise into nightmares, and girlhood collapses into womanhood. Every poem refuses the expected, finding music in survival, and light where it has no business being. Strange, urgent, unforgettable. There is only one mandisa apena.’ Rachel Long

Honoured to announce that I’ll be acting as the lead role in Tice Cine’s stage adaptation of her latest novel ‘SAFE SPACES’ at @southbankcentre next week, alongside @elizarosemuzik + @tice.cin . This one-night-only production for The London Literature Festival on Oct 29th is in association with @dualipa ‘s @service95bookclub , produced by @neoprenegenie

“A story about a late-twenties musician orbiting through a bureaucratic system that isn’t set up for hardship, and yet finding a way through poverty, housing instability, grief, heartache and more. Towards song. ‘SAFE SPACES’ is an immersive theatrical representation of the novel with three actors playing the unnamed narrator.”

I spoke to @wonderland earlier this week about why after a ten year acting-hiatus, I was compelled to accept and nurture this role because of how uncanny the narrators life experience mirrors some of my own.

Thank you to Tice for writing women like me and now trusting me to bring her to life.

Thursday October 29th, Southbank Centre, 7.45pm.
‘SAFE SPACES’
a theatrical adaptation of the novel by Tice Cin
written + directed by @tice.cin .

All original scoring and visuals
Sounds by KMNC, Tice Cin, NAMAK, Nammy Wams, TAH + more.
Visuals by Tice Cin, Misbah Anjum-James, Kareem Parkins-Brown + Maria Qureshi

Friends in Scotland! I'll be in Edinburgh on Friday 6th November, with @tice.cin and @maianhvupeterson, to talk about Out There for Safe Spaces: Where We Make the World New, as part of Edinburgh's radical book fair.

Last time I was in Edinburgh, I saw a dog riding a skateboard. It was incredible. This time around will be just as thrilling, I hope.

And then, on Saturday 7th November, I'll be in Mount Florida Books to launch Out There with my friend, and all-round wonderful person, @thischarmingham. I'd love to see you there!

Only three more weeks until Radical Book Fair 2026: Building A Better Now kicks off!

There truly is something for everybody on our programme, and today we're so pleased to be announcing our Friday evening extravaganza - Safe Spaces: Where We Make the World New with our friends Tice Cin (@tice.cin), William Keohane (@william.keohane) and Mai-Anh Vũ Peterson (@maianhvupeterson).

What kind of safety do we need in order to meet and create together, be it works of art, campaigns for change, or a magical combination of both? What safety do we need in order to become ourselves?

Inspired by Tice Cin’s new novel, Safe Spaces, we invite you to celebrate the spaces in our lives that foster courage, invention and care.

What is it about these spaces – physical or not – that allow us to be active parts of something so much bigger than ourselves, but also to step into the truest versions of ourselves?

What makes them crumble when they do, and what makes them last beyond the efforts of individual people? How can we provide safe spaces for each other in private and public ways?

You can get your tickets for this event - and the other RBF panels - on our website now!

Continuing the theme of safe community spaces, on Sunday 8th, we'll be bringing you our free community meal as usual.

Come break bread with neighbours, comrades, fellow book lovers and like minded organisers, browse books and visit our activist stalls at the very heart of the book fair!

Find out about the meal and our other events on our website, link in bio! Nic holds up copies of Tice Cin's and Mai-Anh Vũ Peterson's books as he smiles outside of the bookshop.
