Someone said to me you can truly understand what help is when somebody helps you.

All of the people I love the most helped me with this book and it has already opened doors that make me feel like we can do more beautiful things together.

Grateful for all the publications, reviewers, readers and booksellers who have selected Keeping The House for your 2021 fave lists, book spotlights and reviews — Guardian, Observer, White Review, Los Angeles Review of Books, New York Times, The Skinny, The Big Issue, The Scotsman, Between the Covers and others who are still waving hello on my Google alerts. Having critical engagement with the book has made me feel like my work is actually being taken seriously and on its own terms — it feels surreal to know that we made no compromises with this story and it is still being considered with such openness and care.

One of my highlights has been visiting and chatting with the bookshops who launched, 2021 listed, championed and beautifully window displayed KTH in all its noughties blues like @portybooks, @foylesforbooks, @pagesofhackney @dauntbooks, @waterstones and @lrbbookshop. Thank you too, to the very talented team at @burleyfisher who chose KTH as your book of the year.

It's important to share these things because a book like mine that comes out with an independent press, with such a risky subject matter - from someone who grew up like me - is an uphill battle. A lot of struggles but a passionate and determined team surrounded this project. I want you to know that you are the source of all abundance. It is right within you, if you look after yourself and your energy. You can carry that energy to set goals, take meetings with yourself, nurture your passion projects and then experience your dreams happening before you. As long as there's a you.

What next with work? Book 2 is at the quarter mark now, the EP is nearly ready and some other special things are gently growing. A Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt career model.

I’ve written and directed a one night only stage adaptation of SAFE SPACES for London Literature Festival. A story about a late-twenties musician orbiting through a bureaucratic system that isn’t set up for hardship, and yet finding a way through poverty, housing instability, grief, heartache and more. Towards song. An immersive theatrical representation of the novel with three actors playing the unnamed narrator. The phenomenal forces of interdisciplinary talent that are @elizarosemuzik and @bodurbodurbodurbodur - along with myself. I’ve been creatively inspired by BODUR and Eliza on different projects over the years and I feel blessed to have worked with them on projects that brought us closer together, leading to this very moment. It will be an honour to be on stage with them. This is a @neoprenegenie production for @southbankcentre in association with @service95bookclub — so we have the full genie team on board for this. Visuals and sounds made by us all.

It’s on October 29th and the ticket details are in my bio, or you can type in SAFE SPACES Southbank Centre.

Thank you to @tedhodgkinson, Sophia Rahim and the entire team at Southbank for the beautiful care that has gone into bringing this together. taken in Southbank Centre by @tice.cin

This is #AdvanceCopy, is our new series spotlighting the authors you need to have on your radar right now. We’ll explore the ideas, rituals and influences behind their work, from first spark to the finished page.

This week’s author is Turkish Cypriot interdisciplinary artist Tice Cin (@tice.cin). Based between north London and Northern Cyprus, Tice experiments in the space of portals, balancing the transnationalism of London life and the soft quietness of the seaside. She works across literature, journalism, film and music, and her debut, Keeping The House, was shortlisted for several major literary prizes, and she founded Neoprene Genie, a production company championing emerging talent.

Her new book, Safe Spaces, is an intimate portrait of a community and a personal reckoning that asks: can the dream of a safe space ever be realised?

Catch her on 29 October at the London Literature Festival's Safe Spaces session, where she traces a young musician's search for home through live monologues, projections, music and sound design.

SAFE SPACES PUBLISHES TODAY!

The kaleidoscopic new novel from @tice.cin — a work of extraordinary lyricism that confirms her as one of the foremost stylists of her generation.

Our unnamed narrator survives in London and Newark on a combination of universal credit, music production, and songwriting, trying to figure out what she wants from home, and whether anyone is prepared to give it to her.

Navigating love affairs and halted by pain following the loss of her closest confidante, SAFE SPACES is a portrait of the artist as a young musician.

SAFE SPACES my second novel is out today!

I’m deeply grateful to be able to share this novel with you, a story of someone endlessly picking themselves up. Because you can! In a world where it can feel impossible to feel safe, both in our near communities and on a larger level, I wanted to write about those zones of exploration that we go towards to seek what/where/how we can feel safer. It’s about the wanting to want more. The song in the mildew. The waiting room of every room. The meeting space in our dance. The flowers in the rain. For the late-twenties musician in SAFE SPACES, we find someone who is exploring how their own self-determination can free them, through art, leaps of faith and community. At once a songbook, a found poem of place, a therapy transcript and a community journal, Safe Spaces is a portrait of a community and a personal reckoning, it asks: can the dream of a safe space ever be realised?

I wasn’t ever really sure if I’d want to share this novel because I love it so much so why would I show my baby to the world haha. But here, I trust it with you. Be kind! Deep thank you to @grantabooks and my agent @ryeliterary for helping me to bring you a novel that is inherently itself.

BRISTOL! On Monday 14th September I will be launching my second novel SAFE SPACES at @storysmithbooks in conversation with my dear friend @ralfwebb_ - tell a friend to tell a friend.

Track featured is one by @marla_kether who is a lauded session bassist and also someone who took part in online production workshops via the Bristol org @saffronrecords and received mentorship from the likes of innovative and cool greats like @ikonika_ — Saffron are exactly the type of affirming platform that women, trans, gnc & non binary producers need, with workshops that cover so many topics from connecting to ancestry through electronic music and the musicality of the seemingly mundane. The narrator in SAFE SPACES is someone who finds a form of self empowerment through taking control of their own music journey and developing their own production skills. Often the problem in studios is that those who are disempowered simply do not have the resources to build alternative routes and its orgs like this that can really change that. I’m so inspired by the new opportunities to learn and share learning across scenes and what that can reveal in your heart. I think too of a really special Neoprene Genie barbecue with my closest friends that @alyaaaaaaal came to and itching to get to Bristol so I can see her DJ again, she’s one of the best DJs I’ve seen live! But yes, this music culture is one of the reasons why I was so keen to launch SAFE SPACES in Bristol and i really hope to see friends and new readers there!

Slideshow features a cows I was cooing at before Ralf jogged past and saw me chatting away with them.

Grateful to share the upcoming stops for the launch of my sophomore novel SAFE SPACES.
Taking your book to the world can feel so daunting but when it’s done the right way with the right people, you get to spend time with your words in a loving way. Sometimes the book does the call itself and I’ve been drawn to events that are kind, soft and in conversation with dear friends. Please do book on, with indie books like these, attendance really does rely on word of mouth. SAFE SPACES is a book that I’ve written to almost hold the readers hand through that point beyond the worst day, showing how we reach and go there, to kinder days.

More stops to be added over the months, I have my little suitcase with slippers inside fluffy and ready, just call me! Thank you so much to the wonderful partners who have worked with me and the lovely Pru at Granta on making these special events:
