POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I recently had the incredible experience of attending the @blackfootwearforum at @plcdetroit , and to say it was inspiring would be an understatement. The energy, the talent, and the sheer creativity in the room were unmatched. Being surrounded by black innovators, creators, and leaders reshaping the future of design and footwear was deeply empowering. One of the most amazing parts of the experience was discovering that Detroit is home to Michigan’s only HBCU, Pensole Lewis College of Business and Design. Learning about its legacy and how it’s actively cultivating the next generation of creative talent right here in our city was truly eye-opening.

Back in 2007, I had a dream called What Crêpe?. I didn’t come from the restaurant business. I didn’t have the experience people said I needed. I simply believed we could create something beautiful—something built around great food, unforgettable hospitality and the way people felt when they walked into the room. And somehow, that dream became real. We built a brand. We created memories. We welcomed thousands of people through our doors. And although that chapter eventually came to an end, the feeling never completely left. Over the years, I’ve grown. I’ve built other businesses, lived more life, made mistakes, learned lessons and become clearer about what truly mattered about What Crêpe?. It was never just the crêpes. It was the music. The people. The hospitality. The energy in the room. It was how we made people feel. That brings me to HOUSE GUEST V.1: A What Crêpe? Conversation. As I dare to imagine what a reimagined What Crêpe? could become, I invited a few special people into my home. Some had experienced What Crêpe? all those years ago. Others had never heard of it and were feeling its spirit for the very first time. And I’m deeply grateful to every person who came. You brought your stories, your laughter, your energy and your openness into our home. You reminded me why this dream meant so much to me in the first place. To those who remember What Crêpe?, thank you for carrying a piece of it with you all these years. And to those who never experienced it before, thank you for showing me that the feeling can still reach someone—even without knowing the history. The truth is, I don’t know exactly what the next expression of What Crêpe? looks like. I don’t know where it will live, when it will happen or how it will all come together. I’m not announcing that What Crêpe? is back. I’m simply saying that I’m dreaming again. So we’ll keep inviting people in. We’ll keep creating moments. We’ll keep having the conversations. And one day, together, we’ll discover what this next chapter is meant to become. Thanks to my team for rocking it out: 🎥 @na__ce @mirohmeals @givethanksbakery

here’s the thing about entrepreneurship that most people skip—no one owes you shit. Regardless of what we should do, the reality is we don’t have to…support, share or spend. But the CHOICE to do those things, to embrace your community (beyond your zip code), pull up, give gifts and more—that’s a blessing. It’s important not to loose sight of your blessings in the midst of your progression as well as your pain. I am so thankFUL to the city of Detroit for the love we received this weekend. Pure and genuine love and appreciation. To everyone who came out, bought a box, vibed with us for a bit and even pulled up after learning we sold out—just know I will never forget this. And moreover, I hope you know this same energy you see us moving with—you too can pursue. Don’t let your current impact your future. Give it all you’ve got because you deserve all you desire. To my new family at @periodicals__shop you just made this tour all the more sweet and DETROIT just know we will be back and you know who we fuckin with♥️ ily @freshprinceofbelleisle for the real.

We’ll get back to the magazines soon, but this weekend feels like a family reunion. My grandparents came to this neighborhood, Warren and 23rd from a farm in the south in 1947, when everyone called this area the number streets and never left Detroit. Owning a shop on Grand River has always been about forging space for us on a street that runs through so many important neighborhoods for Detroiters, namely those of us from the westside. Someone came in yesterday and mentioned a Schoolcraft legend who I won’t name here, but hearing that name resurrected a stream of 20 year old memories. The construction dust and cranes in the sky can sometimes make it harder for us to find one another, but this weekend family came over and we have range. I’m so grateful to Zewiditu @zewiditu and Derrick @_7streams @cloudydonuts for bringing their beautiful, refreshing energy into the space, and for doing work that feels authentic, joyful, and like something we can ALL get behind. Huge thanks to Sepia Coffee @scpdetroit for getting in on this with us. @zoetalley killed it yesterday. @motherofpearl.design you did your thing as always! Let’s do it again today, 12am-5pm @atm_michael_s and @jamesada.ms back to back.
